Are you happy now, appeal committee? You've dug a hole that will be dificult and very costly to climb out of.
Your district superintendent should be embarrassed! |

Good Job of standing on your beliefs. this show the students that sometimes you just have to take a stand for what is right

The school district has publicly undermined the principal's authority. I am proud of the principal for taking a stand. Anyone else scratching their head about why parents who kids were breaking the law (underage drinking) seem to think that its unfair to remove them from the team? The school shouldn't have to kick kids off. The parents should have removed their kids from the team.

Interesting. On one hand, educators disciplining a 6 year old for bring a fork to school... ridiculous. On the other hand, this guy doing the right thing and a Board and community supporting kids doing the wrong thing. Wake up, Esparto!

It was the wrong decision to put these kids back on the team. I am all for removing kids from sports teams if they drink or use drugs. However, they will remove the majority of the varsity level football teams in all schools. It is sadly a fact that a large % of high school juniors and seniors drink. However that does not make it right. The community should have been more upset that the kids were drinking. Kudos to the principal for standing up for what he believes in. I wish Woodland and Pioneer administrators had this level of ethics.

Too bad these boy's parents had to come to their rescue. They will never learn what being held accountable for their actions are if their mommy's and daddy's keep bailing them out of their troubles. Kudo's to the principal for his moral beliefs. Good luck in your future endeavours.

What the Esparto school district is now telling its students is that it is OK to drink, break the rules, and not face discipline by your school staff. Oh, that's not correct? Oh, I see, only if you are on the football team! OK, now I have the priorities correct. Bad principal! Go stand in a corner becuause you had the unmitigated gall to stand up for standards and conduct. By the way, replace the Gatorade with an ice cooler filled with Coors. Better to accomodate the team and that way they won't have to travel far for after game refreshments.

There is more to the story and it has more to do with the principals past at his last job and this was just the icing on the cake. So complain about the parents all you want. There is more to it than just the nine kids.

Exactly, all are equal, but some are MORE equal! |

Before everyone is so quick to judge the school district, there is much more to this story than what is being reported. Mr. Johnston did not follow any of the proper protocol when removing the kids from the team which is why the committee voted to reinstate them, not to mention that this is not the first time he has not followed protcol when dealing with the kids. And the athletic situation is just an excuse he is using to avoid explaining the real reasons why he quit. There were several greivances filed against him in the past 2 years and they were even recently considering filing a hostile work environment. The teachers did a vote of no confidence in him last year, but he decided not to leave and the teachers at the last school he was at did a vote of no confidence in him also. Not to say that the kids were free of all blame in this, but their situation is not the real reason that he decided to leave so before everyone starts pointing fingers at the Esparto district and the superintendent, get all the facts.

Yes there is more to this principal so please do not start bashing the district and the commitee what had to be done was done.

Esparto will never change. They have lost talented employees in the past. It is a vicious circle and they can't seem to find their way out. This current principal was correct to stand up for his values. The Esparto School District will wear you down. So sad for the students.

It's time to take a hard look at how the Esparto School Board hires administrators. The last principal Ms. Bremmer had to be physically removed from campus.
By the way, unless your son is or was on the Esparto football team, PUT A SOCK IN IT! You have no idea what your talking about, ignoranus. And to all you Spartan supporters that just turned your head when Johnston kicked my son out of school last year FOR NO REASON, THANKS FOR NOTHING! But when it happens to your boy you step up. I tried to warn you about that guy. The AD should be fired on Monday, bye bye Jeff. |

I applaud Troy Johnston for stepping down if he did so because these football players were reinstated. This is complete bull that the board would overturn the authority of the principal and athletic director because a few parents complained. Rules are rules, those kids broke the rules and deserved to be punished. This is typical for Yolo County where the moral and ethics of our government officials runs thin. If I had to guess these are wealthy farmers kids of Yolo, money talks bull shid walks. Good Job Troy.
|
||||
So sorry they are not wealthy farmers kids,shoots down your comment,I agree with other post if you do not know what happened put a sock in it. |
||||

Let't see Troy Johnston says in article,17 years in Winters ,ok.Will search for other job but doesn't know whether he will continue in education-principal for one year-taking time to find what is right.So Troy if you are having a hard time finding out what is right for you,are you or did you just us Esparto for a stepping stone. Hope you find out what is right for you ,because it does not seem like it is education.How many schools have you been at trying to find out what is right for you,just wondering.

oops should of been let's see,trying best to proof read,I know some people will start bad mouthing me for bad english and spelling and all that,trying to do my best.
|
||||
Yes, "Rules are rules" and Troy Johnston did not follow the rules to remove the players from the team, which is why they were reinstated, so to quote another poster, "if you don't know the story, put a sock in it..." |
||||
Not sure as to how many schools he has been at total, but I do know that throughout his whole career the longest he has ever stayed in one place has only been 4 years, says something doesn't it. |
||||
|
You've got to follow protocol !
I'm sure the principal beleived in his swift action but you just can't do that when it comes to school situations and peoples kids. Especially Highschool football - what if a kid has next level potential and he's unfairly disciplined and a bright future becomes lost. How do you know those kids were even drinking alcohol ? Pictures can be faked water put in beer cans etc. Doesn't sound plausible ? Look up the road were the pioneer kids faked a myspace page about their coach and the ensuing cluster **** epic failure by the prinicipal. |
