If Helene Weinstein is so concerned about birth mothers rights what about my rights? As a citizen, veteran and tax paying American don't I have rights too? Are my birth mother's rights any more important than mine?
It's about fairness and equality. If she is so concerned about birth mothers rights why can't a compromise be met like allowing birth mothers to opt out or request sealed records.
In my experience and from all those I have spoken with this would be less than one percent of birth parent who would request the records be sealed. The vast majority of interviewed birth parents would welcome contact from the children they gave up.
In my case it's doubly cruel as my birth mother never told my birth father about her pregnancy so he does not even know he has a son. If I cannot know who she is I will never know who he is. What about his rights. Since I am now 45, I fear it may already be too late.
I implore every adoptee and birth parent to go to the protest and if enough of you show up the press will take notice and maybe we'll finally bring this to light and expose Helene Weinstein's contempt for our rights. I will be there and I will be heard!

If you care about this issue, please attend this on Sept.
Please join us Sunday September 29th, 2013 at 12:30pm for a protest at Ny
state Assembly woman Helene-E-Weinstein's Brooklyn, Ny district office.
This elected official has repeatedly prevented our Bill of Adoptee Rights
from moving forward for a vote on the assembly floor. Every non-adopted
person can easily obtain their original birth certificate. Adult adoptees
should have that same right. Knowing our individual heritage and biological
medical history completes us as people and not knowing this vital
information leaves a huge void. Would you enjoy reading a book with the
first chapter missing? I doubt it.
Please join us and let our voices be heard! Below is Assemblywoman
Helene-E-Weinstein's contact/address information page. Thanks.

Weinstein is evil incarnate. Ask the question, "Who are you representing?" and she would likely point at herself in the mirror. She brags about her role as a woman's rights advocate, yet each adult female adoptee in NYS is denied equality because of Weinstein (lowercase intentional).
There is not a more evil politician in office than helene Weinstein other than perhaps kemp hannon. BTW, "shemp" we are coming after you next!

Obviously, the execrable Helene Weinstein is blocking this bill to prevent her own relinquished child from finding her.

Adopted = Discarded
Keep abortion legal so these discarded children do not take up legislative man hours with their pathetic lobbying.

My letter to Rep Weinstein
"As a mother who surrendered a child in 1966, I am very disappointed in your stance against equal access and I am wondering what your reasons are. 23 yrs networking with thousands tells me that parents who surrendered do not care about confidentiality and want their adult children to have their original birth certificate.Nothing terrible has happened due to equal access in states that have enacted it. Is it personal?"
my feelings here is that she may have her own secrets or her family does.

My periodic report to Rep. Helene Weinstein:
Since my last report to you, here are the reunions I have facilitated despite your silly sealed records laws:
Toniís daughter, Aug 1976, NY
Sandyís brother, May 1965, CA
Sandyís brother (grave), Feb 1960, CA
Marieís mother, Jan 1965, NY
Michaelís mother and father, Apr 1965, NJ
I probably could have accomplished more if I hadnít become enmeshed in fighting the forced adoption travesty being perpetrated upon Dusten Brown and his precious daughter, Veronica, in OK. ‪#‎Standin gOurGroundForVeronicaBrown ‬
Iím sure you have seen this, but you might want to keep checking back to look at the thought-provoking comments.
Looking forward to seeing you on Sep 29th! Iíll be in touch before then, Iím sure.

Dear Assembly member Ms. Weinstein
I am an adoptee from Rochester, New York born in 1968. I currently do not share the same fundamental civil rights guaranteed to me under the 14th Amendment of the US Constitution to have my original birth certificate. I also do not share the same rights as other US citizens and New Yorkers to have access to necessary family medical history so that I may benefit from preventative health care.
We must change these outdated unfair laws and I am urging you to support and pass Assembly bill A909. This piece of legislation is vital to adoptees like myself that have been kept in the dark far too long about our own identity and heritage!
Adoption is multi-faceted and has broad affects on everyone involved. I believe it to be true that the adoptee suffers the greatest loss. It is the adoptee that is denied the most basic of human rights existing in a world of secrets and lies about their own beginnings and roots. A genealogical genocide has taken place in the last seventy five years with the enactment of laws that legalize the falsification of permanent records and is most definitely a civil rights issue.
New York was one of the first states to allow gay marriage and give these citizens their vital human right. The right to marry anyone they choose. It is now time for New York to come to the forefront once again and pass legislation for those affected by adoption.
I would like to share a quote from Alex Haley-
ďIn all of us there is a hunger, marrow-deep, to know our heritage- to know who we are and where we have come from. Without this enriching knowledge, there is a hollow yearning. No matter what our attainments in life, there is still a vacuum, an emptiness, and the most disquieting loneliness.Ē
Thank you for your hard work and dedication to the great State of New York!

Dear NY Assemblywoman Helene Weinstein,
When my Mom was born in NYC, in 1932, and subsequently adopted to Tennessee in 1933, adoption records were not sealed in your State. As a matter of fact, the agency in NYC that currently holds the records of the now defunct Free Synagogue Adoption Committee, thru which Mother was adopted, still holds the handwritten letter that Motherís biological Mother wrote to her, 81 long years ago. If this woman, my biological Grandmother, did not want Mother eventually to know her identity, why would she have written said letter?
Do you not realize, Helene, that you and your occulted sponsors in this travesty of denying adult adoptees a copy of their original birth certificate and also health information, all of you are interfering with the Lives, the Health, and also the Spirituality of Adults all over the World, not just people who reside in your little sphere of importance.
When a child is born, its Neshama seeks the Neshamot of its Imma and Abba. Nothing you may do, no human interference can nor will stop this natural Flow of human life on Earth, hard as you and others may try. This Flow is Derek Hashem, The Way of G-d.
Motherís non-identify information states that both of her biological parents were Yehudim. Well, guess what, Helene? Since we have gotten nowhere using traditional search tools, we have gone the DNA route. Contrary to humans, DNA does not Lie. DNA has revealed that only one of Motherís biological parents was a Jew. It will take a bit of time, but eventually we will be able to determine which parent was the Jew and which parent was the Gentile.
How many other YIddsher couples were deceived in the way that my Grandparents, Motherís Adopted Parents, were deceived? You have the power to right this wrong, Helene, and action is long overdue. Do those Rabbis with whom we see you in pictures on your website approve of this deception, the selling of Gentile babies as Jewish?
Truth out, girlfriend. Was my bio Grandmother the Jew or was my bio Grandfather the Jew? Is Mother a Jewess or is she not? Am I a Jewess or am I not? Is my daughter a Jewess or is she not? Are my grandchildren Jews or are they not? Most of us realize that religion is a state of mind, but we also know that youíre not considered a Real Jew unless your Mother was one.
In our times, we see many Brothers and Sisters in Queer Nation adopting. If itís Queer Nation to whom you are bowing in this seriously wrong political stance that you are stuck on, re: this denying adult adoptees their original birth certificate and health information, well then, know this: I am not alone in asking you to reconsider. Many of us are children of adoptees or were adopted ourselves. Remember, the Neshama of the child will eternally seek the Neshamot of its biological parents, and whether it be today or whether it be tomorrow, the search will happen.
Stop making it so Darn Difficult and so Fricking Expensive. And by expensive Iím not just talking about shekels here. I am also talking about the Emotional Expense that this search involves.
In closing I want to make known that of course I got Motherís approval to contact you and that she did approve this letter. She instructed me to sign as below.
Julie, daughter of Peggy H. Moore

Dear NY Assemblywoman Helene Weinstein,
Your "concerns" about "birthmother privacy" are completely unfounded and your opposition to the NY Bill of Adoptee Rights actually does more to expose birth mothers to public knowledge of relinquished children than passing the bill would do.
As I would hope you could now understand form the countless numbers of letters and personal stories of adult adoptees that you have been subject to over the many years these bills have been pending at Albany, the need to know is universal, human and often most compelling. Adoptees and often the very birth parents you pretend to "protect" will go to any measures available in order to find their families separated by adoption. Human nature is not something that can ever be legislated by any government.
Between the new advances in DNA testing and the rise of the internet, especially social media, the ability to search and find lost family is often just a click away.
In DNA, the family tree is expanded to find matches as far away as fourth cousins, complete strangers, who are then contacted for information. As more people turn to DNA test, within the adoption community alone, new advances in mapping family tress are advanced. The technology is growing by leaps and bounds and will not be stopped.
And then we have the Adoptee Photos searches. Thousands of people posting pictures of themselves on Facebook, making videos, with every little tid bit of possible information carefully written on pasteboard with all the world to see with the hopes of thousands more sharing and seeing their posts. "My birthmother was 16 with brown hair and green eyes. She lived in Oswego and went to the local high school there. She was interested in nursing, was on the swim team and her father was a plumber. We think my she was dating my father, a local student who was in band and of Polish descent. If you have any information, please contact. [email protected]" . Now the hopes of this method of searching is that perhaps a cousin or neighbor or friend's little sister might see a family resemblance and think; Wow doesn't that look like June? And was there rumors back in 1973 about her having a baby? She did "disappear" for a while. Let me check with my aunt, brother, cousin.
Is this the terms of privacy that you wish to instill upon adoptees and their birth families? Because THIS is what the lack of updated legislation by New York State and YOUR efforts forces people to do!
Passing the NY Bill of Adoptee Rights would actually allow contact to be a private affair between the very two people to which it affects. Not their 3rd cousins, or nosey neighbors or friends babysitters, but between to grown adults, who can then decide between themselves the level of which they desire contact and the manner of which this relationship will be shared with the world.
Think about it, Ms. Weinstein. Your position is just illogical and works against what you say is your concern. If you truly do care about a woman's confidentiality when contacted by their relinquished and adopted child, you will help NY have the tools that will allow it to be a private matter between the two parties. You will allow the Bill of Adoptee Rights be called to the floor for a vote and you will usher in it's passing.
People are going to search and find anyway, with or without your blessings, your unfounded concerns, and your laws.

Hi, thank you for writing. Here we are a year later, and upon listening to the June assembly speak in ny (you can hear it too) https://www.facebook.com/NYAdoptionEquality/p...
They indicated that records pre 1935 are not sealed. Maybe you would like to check on that, and report back to those that make those remarks. Thank you again,

I refer you to the Nov. 18, 2015 NY Daily News article, "Speaker's job has Silver Lining" re the fact that the trial lawyers lobby is costing not only adoptees' progress but costing New York City $$$ from their lawsuits. There is a conflict of interest here. At this time of terror New York needs funds for beefed-up security more than these trial lawyers need 1/3 the money from lawsuits against the city.
#38 Nov 19, 2015
New York is now a target for terrorists. Funds are needed for added protection. But trial lawyers are in control of our assembly and they are involved in suing the City. Tort reform will never happen as long as Weinstein and Silver hold sway. And who runs for office against them? Nobody I'd vote for!!! This needs to change.
