Hempstead Teacher wrote: One of the worst schools on Long Island. Why? Not because of teachers or facilities, but because it is filled with minorities with no parental guidance, or no parents at all. Minorities, especially blacks grow up fending for themselves because they dont have fathers, and their mothers work or are on Welfare and do nothing. Why they have children is because sex is the only pleasure they have. These kids run amok on campus and through the halls fighting, involved in drugs and gangs, graffiti. Its not the schools fault, its the parents. Drive by there to see what I mean. And I am a black man that had 2 parents and was punished when I wronged. Unfortunately, WHENEVER school districts go predominantly black, they go down the tubes. But you have to remember that not ALL black parents are like that. The black parents on Long Island who are about doing the right thing do NOT have their children in Westbury, Roosevelt, Wyandanch, etc. I have been in education for over 20 years and currently am a HS Principal. I know that I paid for my son to go out of district when I lived in Westbury.

Reality Check wrote: How high is the drop out rate at Hempstead High? In the double digits. It should be a crime punishable by jail time for lies to be promoted as the truth. Parents, stroughn, the faculty and school board are among the few criminals who have done very little to change the climate at Hempstead High School. The students who have done what they are suppose to do deserve the credit. As they daily forced to enter a building full of overpaid and morally bankrupted people these students continue to make strives. When a former drunk, womanizer and cheat can get an award as principal of any year...the organization who has bestowed this should be brought into question. A people...a community...a nation must be careful who they put in place of authority. These are people our children....your children may one day make their role models. The shining light is clay is retiring. The question is how long will Hempstead High School have to wait for stroughn and others to hit the road? You are absolutely right!!!!!!!!!! Principal of the year or a womanizer/cheater/liar of the year?! Go figure!

That's like....almost 100 right? DILF wrote: The governor stood at a podium before hundreds of high school students and declared, "I am from Hempstead, New York." And 90% of the crowd didn't know where Hempstead was.

HEMPSTEAD-CLASS OF 183 wrote: Hempstead can once again be the great school district. Parents, students and the Hempstead government need to unite as one. As a life long resident of Hempstead, I also remember the good times. We went to the parks, youth center or sometimes just out in the front yard for a good time. Hempstead has many great people living and working everyday, but the people just seem to worship the negativity and ignore the positive things going on. How many of you know that the Salvation Army has a double dutch team that will be traveling to South Carolina in June for the championships. These young ladies all attend school in the Hempstead school district. Come out and support the school district, see what you can offer to help bring it up back up. Their are many meetings and programs where if just one person attended and brought one with them it would fill up and auditorium. All children need support along with the teachers. Once again not all is bad in the Village of Hempstead. Double dutch team? Stop it. The gals from Hempstead went to great universities years ago. I'll bet the "team" you're talking about stays on the dole and most are destined to become "baby mamas" to ex-cons. Jumping rope ain't gonna cut it.

I agree with what you said cause i went to hempstead high i didn't graduate from hempstead high not cause i wasn't a good student cause my teachers can vouch for me but and not all of them are bad people but Reginald Stroughn doesn't give a shit about the students. I know that the kids that actually do the right thing in school are few but there are some out there and thats the reason i am going back to ny so i can try and help my community because the kids need our support i didn't get the best education in hempstead but i at least tried to get one and what i did learn help me become the man i am today i am a Cpl in the US Marines and im becoming a Sergeant soon and if was able to do it with out support from anybody then i know that these kids can do anything they put their minds to if they get just little support and good role models so i want to give back just a little to these kids.ooooraaahhh and semper fi to all my peoples who made it out of our hood but haven't forgot where they from.

Hempstead, (just like Westbury, Roosevelt, Wyandanch, Uniondale and countless others) became the way they did when they became minority. It is the parents fault. Pleae do not blame the teachers, school district or administrators. good school systems have good and caring parents. PERIOD
