Are you kidding me?!!? No one cares that this guy was arrested alongside a drug dealer?

Sorry Pepperell, looks like it's going to be harder to get your pot for the winter... at least until some other corrupt town official can fill in for Cate.

When are people going to wake up and realize that drugs are destroying this country?

(Oh and Lowell sun, STOP WITH THE POP-UP ADS!!!)

I am a voter in Pepperell and to me it is a big deal. Pepperell has a drug problem. Heroin use is well documented. Hasn't marijuana been characterized as a gateway drug. I heard that Mr. Cates and his lifelong friend were also business partners and the vending business a good cover for the real money maker - Pot sales. Of course they have a large customer base in Pepperell and supply not just Pot and it is a mature customer base.
As a town official you must have a respect for the law. Nick Cate does not. He therefore should not serve this town and should step down. Does he want a petition to embarass himself and his family. It can be done but out of a sense of believing he has enough brain cells left, the real "good" people are waiting for him to do the right thing.

It's none of my business so I say that the voters of Pepperell must, and will, decide. A recall petition might also be appropriate.

Does anyone realize that Mr. Cate Vending Business has the contract for the LOCAL SCHOOLS!!!!!!!!!!

So it sounds like Pepperell Residents are ok with Mr. Cate making decisions for the future of our town and suppling our children with "CANDY" ?????

Poor Guy!!!! Are you people serious!

Interseting point about the barbies - are you saying his good friend plays too? As was previousley pointed out, birds of a feather flock together. Intersetingly, if you can't control what is going on locally, there is little chance of controlling national politics. You have lost site of the importance of grass roots involvement.

If you truly care about John McCormack, send flowers and a card to the Weekly Standard - FTD has a 20% discount today. Don't hijack this story. You don't have to belittle everyone and everything else to elevate your agenda. More voters thank you think can multitask and pay attention to more than one issue at a time to include stories the Herald hasn't issued a party position on.

Leave it to the lowell sun to interview Leigh Ann Maher!!!! She is wicked nice but come on!!! I can only wonder how the lowell sun picked her. Oh, look there is some one standing infront of McNabb's let's talk to her.

Nick Cate should step down ASAP. And for god's sake leave Leigh Ann Maher alone.

Just remember Nick you sleep with dogs and you are going to get fleas:(

Yes it may have been only Marijuana. Lets look at the big picture. He is an ELECTED official. That was with a repeat convicted drug dealer with pot plants growing in his home,$72,000 CASH, firearms, scales etc! Don't you think we need to look at the big picture?

You might be able to use that as a defense but not when you have a bag of POT in your pocket and you are in New Hampshire, ouch!!!!

Pot is part of the problem. Too many people, especially here in Taxachusetts, think there's nothing wrong with pot. WelL WRONG-O! I for one care. I voted against the damn decriminalization law. It is NOT okay for an elected official to just "have a few puffs" on the weekend. That's his message to the kids, "Yeah I smoke pot, so what?" Nice!

I say get the petion going and yank his embarrassing ass out of office and start sending the right message to kids.
Question

Pepperell, MA

#17 Jan 15, 2010
What was the planning board thinking when they thought it was ok for him to stay on? Do they smoke pot also? Given some of the recent decisions they have handed down, it's worth a look!!!

This is a well thought out post and one in which I agree with. This is setting the wrong precedent and the town of Pepperell should have a higher ethical standard for their leaders and officials.

So the last two presidents have admitted to smoking pot and we have decriminalized it in MA, but a small town board member must resign for small possesion? Get a grip people. Stop being so high and mighty and leave the guy alone. If it happened in Mass. you wouldn't even know about it. Next you people will want to start booting other officials out when they get a speeding ticket. LOL.
