Thinking about moving to Brookline. We have three young kids. Any thoughts on schools, sports programs, distance to the rest of the world? Also does anybody drive from Rt 13 to 495 that can tell me drive time from the border in the morning?

We live in Mason now because we used to have a lot of horses and Mason is a good location for that. We used to live in Brookline and our kids went through the excellent school system there (HS in Hollis). That was 20 years ago but the schools have actually gotten even better. The school system is stable and will continue to be excellent. It is definitely closer to supermarkets and malls by a half hour and probably $5.00 worth of gas for a 2 way trip. Be prepared to pay a lot of taxes because you can see the Brookline Police Dept. is in the news a lot and that means legal issues which cost money for lawyers. I used to commute to Chelmsford MA and route 3 south is a disaster if there is one flake of snow. Route 13 to 495 via 290 might be ok until you get to Fitchburg, then it will suck. Back roads are better; like 119 east through Groton to Acton depending on where on 495 you want to go.
