Tunas full of radiation from the Japan disastor are now being caught on our west coast. Should this be a concern to the tuna fish consumers? If I get a tuna salad at subway, will I be subjected to unhealthy amounts of radiation? Do tuna fishermen have geiger counters to test their fish?

What evidence do you have that tuna is a danger to anyone?

I'm asking if its dangerous, not saying that it is dangerous. Seems that there should be some concern due to the radiation. You must have had a problem reading my short, properly worded, correctly spelled paragraph.

Your making this up. This would have certainly been all over the news. Stop writing false stories on here to scare people.

Here's some proof for you lady. It appears to be very true. You may want to apologize for calling Joe Tuna a liar.....

It's been more than a year since an earthquake off the coast of Japan triggered tsunamis and the nation was brought to the brink of nuclear disaster, but the environmental impact of those events has hardly subsided. According to scientists, scores of bluefin tuna have begun arriving to the west coast of the United States exhibiting troublingly high levels of radiation. "We were frankly kind of startled," says Nicholas Fisher, a researcher studying the radioactive tuna's arrival to California.

In a study slated to appear in the journal Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, scientists report that more than a dozen bluefin tuna fish caught off the coast of San Diego showed abnormally high levels of radioactive caesium, conclusively linked to the accidental discharges washed into the waters around Fukushima

I'm not apologizing to anyone. Fake stories like this are all over the internet and cause people to be afraid. Radioactive tuna would have been on the real television news. Stop spreading false information and pray to GOD for forgiveness.

You had better get on your knees and pray to your tuna sandwich before you eat it Anna. You might just wake up the next morning with horns and a tail.

Sorry to inform you of this but any tuna that can swim to our west coast from Japan, can also swim to the Equador west coast in central america. You had better also pray to god before eating your tuna sandwich Brandy.

Why were tuna swimming around a nuclear power plant to begin with? If their babies are radioactive and they reproduce more radioactive tunas this could be a terrible thing. I fed my children tuna salad sandwiches for lunch today and this is a very startling thing to read.

The nuclear power plant workers threw lunch leftovers into the water and the tuna came there to eat everyday. Yes, their babies will grow up and produce radioactive offspring of their own. In 2 years, 90% of all tunas in all of the oceans and seas will be radioactive. Sorry to hear that your children ate tuna for lunch.

There is no such thing as radioactive tuna. Stop trying to scare everyone. I have heard nothing else about this and this is bogus. Adults and children can safely eat tuna. Dont let these people fool you with their made up stories.

My friend Ernie called today from California. He said that he was out on his boat last night and seen a dozen green glowing underwater objects swim towards his boat. The objects went underneath his boat and he could make out a tuna shape when they came out on the other side of boat. He said that they were swimming straight for San Diego.

I don't have a problem reading what you stated. I'm just asking for evidence to back up this claim you made:

"Tunas full of radiation from the Japan disastor are now being caught on our west coast."

Aren't nuclear power plant fuel rods made of uranium and plutonium? If so, where did the cesium come from?

I'm no radioactive tuna expert but here is a little info that I found.
Based on U.S. Energy Department data, assuming a total of 11,138 spent fuel assemblies are being stored at the Dai-Ichi site, nearly all, which is in pools. They contain roughly 336 million curies (~1.2 E+19 Bq) of long-lived radioactivity. About 134 million curies is Cesium-137 — roughly 85 times the amount of Cs-137 released at the Chernobyl accident as estimated by the U.S. National Council on Radiation Protection (NCRP). The total spent reactor fuel inventory at the Fukushima-Daichi site contains nearly half of the total amount of Cs-137 estimated by the NCRP to have been released by all atmospheric nuclear weapons testing, Chernobyl, and world-wide reprocessing plants (~270 million curies or ~9.9 E+18 Becquerel).

It is important for the public to understand that reactors that have been operating for decades, such as those at the Fukushima-Dai-Ichi site have generated some of the largest concentrations of radioactivity on the planet
Radiocaesium follows potassium and tends to accumulate in plant tissues, including fruits and vegetables. It is also well-documented that mushrooms from contaminated forests accumulate radiocaesium (caesium-137) in their fungal sporocarps.[103] Accumulation of caesium-137 in lakes has been a high concern after the Chernobyl disaster. Experiments with dogs showed that a single dose of 3.8 millicuries (140 MBq, 4.1 μg of caesium-137) per kilogram is lethal within three weeks; smaller amounts may cause infertility and cancer. The International Atomic Energy Agency and other sources have warned that radioactive materials, such as caesium-137, could be used in radiological dispersion devices, or "dirty bombs".

I seen it on CNN. Hopefully they are wrong. Tuna fish is the main source of my food intake and it kind of worries me since I'm usually full of tuna. There is no telling how many radioactive tunas that there actually is swimming in our coastal waters now, and couldnt other fish be radioactive too? Could they really reproduce radioactive baby tunas that grow up and reproduce more radioactive tunas as somebody stated on here? If so, this could become a major danger to tuna eaters as myself and others.

I watch CNN all the time and have never heard of this. You need to pray to GOD that he forgives you for making up this horrible lie. You are a awful person to make up false stories and to make people worry. May GOD have mercy on you because you are doing a bad sin by lying like you do.

I noticed a small segment on this tuna story while watching the news a few days ago. They didnt make it sound like it was too much to worry about, but of course the seafood industry would give them information that they only wanted them to hear I'm sure. @ Anna, I guess that I will need to pray for my soul too since I'm agreeing that Joe Tuna may be correct to some extint.

Wouldnt our government be warning us of this and have a recall on tuna? I did hear that debris from the Japan disastor had washed up on the west coast beaches after a year.
