Minutes of the Brookland City Council Meeting.

- "Brookland Police Department has raised $7,000.00 of the $8,500.00 cost for the drug dog and training. Brookland Police Department will present a year end review at the December 8, 2009 council meeting."

- "Mayor Jones announced the City of Brookland had won the 2009 Volunteer Community of the Year award. This award will be given to the City of Brookland at the AML winter conference in January 2010. Mayor Jones asked if any of the city council members would like to attend and advised them to check their schedules and let him know."

- "Mayor Jones stated that the Brookland School had approached the City of Brookland about buying an advertisement ad in the school year book. Wilson shipman made a motion to purchase a ½ page advertisement ad at the cost of $150.00. Mayor Jones asked for 2nd. Mayor Jones announced the motion failed for lack of 2nd."

The 3 paragraphs above were taken directly from the minutes of the Brookland City Council Meeting which is posted on the internet for anyone who is interested. First of all, my complaint is not with the Brookland police, it is with the city council. It is absolutely PATHETIC that the city of Brookland wouldn't buy an ad in the Brookland School yearbook. The kids at Brookland helped raise the money to purchase the drug dog. They have raised money and gathered food for needy families, and families of our soldiers, they have crawled into nasty ditches and sloughs (on Saturdays) to remove garbage, rusty metal, glass, etc. so our community will be safer and cleaner. They are the main reason Brookland got the volunteer of the year award and the city council wouldn't approve $150 to help them with their yearbook???? What wonderful role models our council members are to our young people. So, if any of you city council members plan on attending this meeting (see 2nd paragraph above), who pays for your travel expenses, food, etc? Maybe the mayor or one of the fine council members can come and explain to my child (who has worked very hard to make this a better community for EVERYONE) why they won't pay $150 for an ad in the yearbook.

I agree. Apparently, the city council never heard of the golden rule. However, we've become lazy and just let these people do as they please. Someone needs to run against them and get them out of office. I would, but I have to work 2 jobs to pay my water bill each month.

If you want to make people believe you are truly that stupid, perhaps you should remember to make sure you spell the big words like "guidance" wrong. That way, your post would appear more genuine. Nice try, though.

I don't understand YOUR post! What are you trying to say? That this guy wants people to think he is stupid?

grad78 is right. When you give to one organization, you are expected to give to all that comes to ask. Go ahead and sponser every event that comes along in your city and pretty soon you will be like Jonesboro and other cities and go broke and have to cut back on a lot of important things.

Yes, he/she made a good point, but how can you take someone seriously with all of those misspelled words?

Sorry, but not everyone can spell correctly. It's just how life is some times. What about people commenting using abbreviations like when they are texting someone from a phone? I can't understand them. Oh, well.

Okay, you've gone from a $150 dollar ad to help the local school to HAVING to give to all organizations who ask and sponsoring events for everyone who asks. WOW!!That is paranoid!! Buying the ad from the school has NOTHING to do with any other organizations whatsoever and does not obligate the city to give to everyone who asks. I don't have a kid who goes to school at Brookland, but I buy from every kid who knocks on my door selling something for the school as much as I can.... it's called supporting your community... which is something this "volunteer community" of the year needs to learn. People are entitled to their own opinions, but its obvious from your post that you are not a very educated person.

Well, you are right in one area. Brookland does not have to be obigated to give to every organization that asks. BUT, if they give to the school and not to another organization, then this other organization would be getting on here bashing Brookland for not support them. Then you would be on here defending the school's donation because you feel like they are a worthy cause and this other organization is not. And round and round it goes!!!!

There is one thing that I do not agree with you about. And that is fine, like you said, we all have opinions. BUT, I am not uneducated. Sure, I might not have lots of 'degrees' coming out by butt, but I have owned my own small, successful business for 11 years. Speaking from experience, when one organization finds out you sponsored another organization, they ALL come in groves to get you to donate. Some times you just have to say "No" or you would be giving all your money away and have to shut down your business. I support my community in the ways that I am able to do so.

Okay, I think we are getting away from the original point. That being simply this....The Brookland city council should have bought the ad to help the school. It would have been the right thing to do. If other organizations show up asking for help, here's the answer they should be given..."No thank you-- because the students at Brookland school work hard performing community services to our town, we think it only right to show our gratitude by supporting them."

Taken from today's Jonesboro Sun:

Pupils help with K9 funds

By Ray Whiteside

BROOKLAND — The Brookland Police Department came one check closer Monday to raising the $8,500 needed to buy a K9 unit thanks to a donation by a local school organization.

The Brookland High School Environmental and Spatial Technologies Lab class presented $896 to department representatives. The students raised the funds during a chili supper on Nov. 5 at the high school.

Students organized the fund-raiser because “That’s what we do — we help our community,” senior Auston Graham said.

To the students of Brookland school... "Thank you for all you do for our town. Your generosity is much appreciated."

To the city council... "Shame on you"

Daily Horoscope for December 23

Pisces

Someone is in a very boisterous mood today, and you may want to make yourself scarce after a short spell in their company. Their idea of a joke may be your idea of extreme rudeness, or they could take pleasure in being argumentative just for the sake of it. Don't let this person wind you up or you'll go off pop through sheer tension.
