Once while on one of his nightly crusades Soochow was caprured by one of the local dog catchers and they filed down of his canine teeth. If this was intended to put a stop to his obsession it was a total failure If anything it made Sooch even angrier. It was not long before Soochows exploits were being reported in the local Marine Corp newspaper the "Walla Walla" and the "Stars and Stripes" a newspaper available to Marines worldwide. The stories told of how the guys would take Sooch out on the town and much to the distress of the resturant personnel, set him up at the table with his own chair, dressed in his own hand-made uniform eating specially prepared sirloin steak and drinking beer out of a saucer.
When it was time for the Marines to get down to more important nightly adventures at their favorite watering hole they would send their little buddy home in his own rickshaw. He was probably the most pampered pooch in Shanghai at that time. That is until he screwed up somehow like peeing on the flagpole, or even worse by commiting the same offence on the chair in the mess hall. Poor Sooch once suffered the indignation of being suspended about an inch off the floor in a harness for this very offence. Finally a sympathetic Marine would cut him down. It wasen't long before The story of Soochow and the 4th Marines became a legend throughout the Corp and things could not have been better for little Soochow. But then something happened that almost brought a tragic end to this story. One day when Soochow was making his rounds and for reasons unknown Soochow was struck and nearly killed by a Marine truck. Witnesses said the tuuck ran completely over his body and his eyes nearly popped out of his head. Soochow, more dead than alive, was taken to the local Vet who informed the worried men that Soochow had a fractured spine and internal injuries and that it would be best to put him down. But Soochow was no ordinary dog. He was a Marine and was tough as nails. The guys knew this and they refused to put an and to this Marine and they carried their wonded buddy back to the barraks and did whatever they could for Sooch to try and save his life.
