I see in the Charleston Daily Mail that several names are being discussed for potential federal appointments in WV to postions such as U.S. Attorney and U.S. Marshal. Most of the people mentioned are from the southern district and very little was said about possibilities from the northern part of the state. Rumors are circulating that Morgantown Police Chief Phil Scott is seeking the U.S. Marshal position and is viewed as a front runner.

Names circulating for both the U.S. Attorney and U.S. Marshal in the northern district.
Deputy U.S. Attorney John Parr is popular and probably the most qualified to take over as U.S. Attorney. Former Ohio Co. Sheriff Tom Burgoyne and George Fahey a former employee of the U.S. Attorney are both working on getting appointed to the Marshal's job. They will probably cancel each other out as they continue to jab one another after a bitter election in Ohio County that had Burgoyne crossing political lines to support a Republican for sheriff, beating Fahey in the Nov. general election. Fahey has no law enforcement management background. Morgantown Police Chief Phil Scott has several well known people backing him for the Marshal's appointment, likewise for former state police captain Mike Trupo, but reports are that he is no longer interested since being appointed to the parole board by Gov. Manchin. |

One thing for sure, appointments will more than likely be swift as the democrats will want their people in place as soon as possible. Burgoyne took out a full page add supporting republican sheriff candidate, not much help when you are looking to be appointed by the new administration.

Why would Chief Scott leave? He's one of the top if not the highest paid police chief in the state. I just can't see him giving up his position in Morgantown to take a political appointment.

I wonder why the media in Clarksburg/Morgantown haven't reported on the potential appointments?
Who makes nominations for those appointments?
The two U.S. Senators from WV have provided a "short list" of names for nomination to the much-coveted positions of U.S. Attorney and U.S. Marshal to the President.
Any word yet on the names of those appointees?

Slowly, state level appointments are starting to be made. I doubt that WV is a the top of the priority list but none the less, a federal judge has been appointed. Surely U.S. Attorney and Marshal won't be too far away.

A new U.S. Marshal was appointed in N.C. a couple of weeks ago.

What happened with all the talk of change and new appointments? Nothing at all has happened in WV. I would assume that the democrats would be putting pressure on D.C. to replace all of the high profile Bush appointees that are still hanging on.

I think the more the media questions or reports the faster appointments are made. I have a friend who is affiliated with the state democratic party, he says they are getting anxious for things to start happening. Bush administration appointees are pretty much sitting back and collecting pay, knowing they are going to be replaced. I doubt they are doing much.

Tom Burgoyne

I think Burgoyne caused some hard feelings politically when he strayed from the party during the sheriff election.

Just wondering what the latest rumors are? The new administration appears to be in no hurry to make federal appointments. Who's names are currently being circulated for U.S. Attorney and U.S. Marshal ?

Has anyone heard any news on the appointment of u.s. attorney or u.s. marshal ? Seems strange that it is taking so long to pick people for those posts.

Regardless of who's in the running, I can't understand why the democratic leaders are not asking or better yet, demanding that appointments be made. It appears that the whole process has dropped off the radar screen.

I hear that Washington is getting blasted by several state political leaders for not moving on appointments. I expect that supporters are having second thoughts. Most top office holders are Bush appointments.
