A Mastic man nearly starved his cocker spaniel to death -- and then tried to abandon the animal at a town animal shelter, claiming it was a stray, Suffolk police said yesterday.

Stop the town bashing! It could have happened anywhere! I hope the court system isn't lenient with this guy. Any time a pet gets too much of a burden a town shelther will take them for a small fee. It is unfortunate that town shelters do have a 'kill' policy but at least this poor little guy would have had food and water and a chance of being adopted.
