A Friday ago, on TV they were interviewing a jobless couple whose house was in foreclosure. On the driveway was a Nissan. I shouted,“Guys, people in Japan thank you for their jobs.”

Ugh! Jobless Americans driving foreign; helping to put even more Americans out of work.

How come? Well, the Japanese have been luring us for years. They give their vehicles American names. Media promote them for free! They flood us with seductive ads. So, we’re suckers!

As to their passe quality pitch, check the March ‘09 J.D. Power report. For dependability Buick tops Lexus; Lincoln & Mercury in top 5. Today, differences between Japanese and American, exist only in minds still influenced by BIASED media.

For years media have been touting Japanese and knocking American. Yes, FOR FREE, biased media help sell MILLIONS of Japanese cars. So, it’s nightmarishly difficult for the Big 3 to compete. And because they’re a gigantic factor in our economy, as much as one-fifth of it, this costs America JOBS, JOBS, JOBS!

But the Japanese say,“We give America jobs. We build cars here and hire Americans to build them.”

Big deal! They assemble SOME here. The goal: get people to think:“If it’s built here, it’s American.” HOGWASH! It’s still Japanese! Foreign!

But here’s the clincher: MOST Japanese vehicles sold in America are built in Japan!

But no matter where vehicles are built what counts most is where profits end up. FACT: every year Japanese parent-corporations in Japan reap BILLIONS from cars sold in America. Yes, 31% of their income comes from the U.S.A.(see Google) These yearly billions support Japan’s economy at the expense of OURS!

We’re Japan’s cash cow! This, despite our almost 50 million people with no health care, 37 million in poverty, 12 million kids hungry each day, 77,000 bridges needing rebuilding, highways crumbling, inner-city schools deteriorating, and unemployment pushing 10%.

Considering that, we let Japan milk us for billions each year? In return, can we build cars in Japan? No! They impose costs that make it financially unworkable for U.S. automakers. In ‘08 they imported a puny 10,000 cars from us, but sold us 3 million of theirs.

And get this: they’ve even refused to buy our apples! In effect, they close their markets to us.

How do they get away with this? They have an incredibly rich, powerful lobby in Washington.

And, oh yes, the South Koreans also feed on us. They sell us 800,000 cars a year but buy only 6,000 of ours.

Another bummer: many Big 3 dealers have conflicts of interest; they also sell Japanese and Korean. So, they don't advertise:“DRIVE AMERICAN!” If they did, they’d sell lots more American. They’d put hundreds of thousands of Americans back to work. Yes, these dealers could do a lot to help our economy. Instead they shortsightedly add to our woes.

Anyway, from “FOREIGN-CAR-I-TIS,” we’ve lost a million jobs. And if we continue with our heads in the sand about this, estimates say up to 3 million more jobs will be lost. And some predict with trickle down it could be 4 million.

As to the 375,000 jobs we get from foreigners to assemble vehicles, well, if from that we lose 3-4 million jobs, that’s OK?

In any case, now with U.S. backing, GM and Chrysler will be stronger. Even so, the Japanese and Koreans are still circling vultures hoping the Big 3 fail so they can devour the 100 year industry we created. Shall we help them?

NO! NO! Let’s back the new GM and Chrysler, as well as Ford, which on its own is reinventing itself. For three months now, Ford has outsold Toyota. Finally, we’re sniffing the stench of Japanese manure!

Support our economy! DRIVE AMERICAN!

"God bless America, land that I love, stand beside her...."

P.S. More on quality: In 2006, Toyota was under criminal investigation for hiding safety defects:

I own a Hyundai Elantra now... nice car for the money - best vehicle I've ever owned, especially on GAS! I was a Chevy man for 20 years... then the last few I bought were P.O.S.'s, quality went out the window! Doors sagging, rattles everywhere, brake system malfunctions, rust everywhere, crappy paint... the list goes on and on! Tell people to quit buying clothes (or damn near anything else) from Wal-Mart that is made in China. The unions here are the problem... paying someone $25 / hr to put screws in a car door!

Boy, you sure sound like you sell South Korean cars.

No ordinary citizen without an axe to grind would trash so many fellow Americans and potentially hurt America's economy in favor of foreign countries, with comments like yours. Where's your conscience?

SHAME! SHAME! SHAME!

Keep in mind, KOREAN AIRLINES IS READY WHEN YOU ARE. They have some darn good one-way fares.

I didn't trash ANYONE!... Americans (like you and I) building half-assed cars, then trying to sell them at a price higher than the foreign competition's is NOT my problem, it's GM's, Ford's, Chrysler's, and UAW's! To me, those American workers in Detroit (or anywhere else in America), who build OUR vehicles, LET ME DOWN! NAFTA screwed me out of the textile job I had for over 10 years... so, take that, put it in your bong, and SMOKE IT!
Tell me you NEVER shop at Wal-Mart... Make sure you buy ONLY products "Made in America"! Hard to do, isn't it, buddy?!? Nobody up north gave a sh*t when textiles went overseas costing us southerners our jobs... so, why should I give a sh*t about them!

It would be nice if people bought american made flex fuel cars and used e85 fuel(available at the pit stop Hwy 70 Hickory)It would keep billions of dollars at home and out of the hands of terrorist countries. As far as made in USA goods being hard to find it just takes a little work. Tell local retailers and big box folks to shove it and buy american made goods over the net. Our family had a "made in usa christmas "last year. If we don't all get off our lazy butts and demand politians and retailers protect our country what little that is left of it will soon be gone.

Some of us can't afford "American" products (let alone S&H charges)... A lot of Americans, just like us, are having to get by on unemployment checks until we can find another job. Believe me, I'd rather be WORKING, than getting a check for 1/3 the amount I did before! I wish our "Sony" Playstation2 was "American"; I wouldn't feel so bad about buying my son a game out of the bargain bin for his birthday. What brand of TV's do you guys own? OK, then, shut the Hell up!

I grew up without cable TV, airconditioning ,micro waves, cell phones etc.etc.and managed to survive.Yeah it might suck to buy thrift store clothing instead of new clothes from Wal-Mart or give up brand name products but I have to sacrifice too. Sometimes because I have to and sometimes because I want to.

What came first the chicken or the egg. As long as we spend the money we have some control. And we could write/call/email every elected offical and promise not to vote for them unless we get fair trade not free trade. Voting them out is the only way to send a true message.

Supply and Demand"]Lets all become a protectionist country. That worked out oh so well the last time we tried it. Free trade agreements have just been a free ticket for big business to exploit people and the environment oversea. Obama promised to address this but it appears to be another broken campaign promise. I guess business class donars are owed more favors than working class voters. Change.....yeah right.

Boys please, fussing gets nowhere.Just about everything bought in the U.S.A was made elsewhere. This has been happening for a long time.Your computer,t.v and probably most appliances were made in China. You can thank large corporations for this because most companies are going to sub work to turn a profit.A whole of people thought the gravy train would never stop. How many times have you yourselves tried to save a dollar by taking a shortcut?Don't even lie just a little.GREED is what the answer is no matter how you look at this situation.Wall Street did the same thing.Americans just have to have everything. It's always more, more, more.Big houses, big trucks and all kinds of big toys.We can only blame ourselves.Asians have always surpassed us when it comes to intelligence. They gave us enough rope and we hung ourselves.Like I said, stop fussing,we need to come together and come up with a plan.Preferably without the Governments' two cents worth,THEY PROBABLY WILL HAVE TO BORROW IT FROM US ANYWAY!

Blaming Americans for imports is both right and wrong. The goal of all consumers in a capitalist economy is to buy the best they can get for the cheapest price. The problem being that cheaper has been labeled better. In order for companies to stay afloat, they need to reduce costs. The labor force in the United States is far from cheap; in manufacturing you can thank your unions for that. Any unemployed auto worker need only look in the mirror and ask himself if he really produces enough to warrant the $80 per hour that it costs GM to employ him. Unions drove the jobs overseas and American consumer tastes pushed the more expensive/better quality American made products into extinction. Forcing the public to "buy American" is ridiculous as 100% American made does not exist, nor ever will. The goal should be to provide tax and other economic incentives to make doing business in America a profitable venture in the future...With that I announce my candidacy for President of whatever is left when The Messiah abdicates the throne.
