Moving To Hickory

Our family will be relocating to Hickory area. Need real views on schools (HS, MS and Elementary), housing areas, etc. Please help with your input.

Do you have a job lined up when you move to Hickory? If not, don't move here,,,,we have enough people out of work as it is.

Hickory was great 10 yrs ago. Now...not so much. Unless you career demands you relocate here... I'd look at other cities.

I have lived in Hickory area now for 6 years And I have to say this is home for my family! You do have your bad areas just like you do in any town or city! I live in the Mt. View area of Hickory. The schools, Blackburn Elem, Mt.View Elem, Jacobs Fork Jr High, and Fred T Foard I personally feel are the best school in the area! School Staff's are amazing! They still believe in teaching our children like they should be and also do it where it is fun for the kids! Not once have I ever had a problem getting anything taken care of if needed by anyone. Jobs are hard to come by right now. But that is going on anywhere! Rental is pretty reasonable in this area as well. There is alot of rental companies here as well to help on finding the right place.

I left the area about 3 years ago. I lost my job, and had to relocate far, far,away.

I liked Hickory, though I lived about 20 miles away. I preferred living in Valdese, Drexel, Morganton areas.

As mentioned, as long as you have work there, you would do OK. I would prefer sending kids to schools in the other towns that I mentioned - And, you got more property with your houses there.

None of the towns, including Hckory, were better than each other for social life. Hickory surely has better shopping - But,it's only a 20 minute drive from the other towns.

We also felt safer in the other towns.

i lived in hickory and moved before my child started high school. the high school is rampant with gang members, who start trouble at school and nothing is done because they play football. if your child has never been in a fight they try to force one on them. i have been told this by four of my teenage previous neighbors. i moved before i had to deal with it. the principal at grandview elementary was racist of white people and didn't mind making it known, gladi wasn't trying to send a white child to school there. your best bet is st. stephens or another part of hickory. check out the statistics on school suspensions. hhs teacher's can't control students not that it is there fault because it starts at home, but you may want to consider before the move
