Good Lord, "Cover" or "Tribute" Bands represent a depth of geekdoom that even Star Trek and comic book fans can't match.

I'll see you at Nite Caps on May 30th! Geeky nerd that I am, I have to get my presentation together for my master's level class.

It's nice that the Tribune thinks we're cool now.

First of all: Animation (A Tribute To Rush) has not "been together for 22 years." None of the current 3 members are from the original lineup (or, for that matter, from their last truly great lineup of about 5 years ago), and the band hasn't been the same since their scary-good drummer, Dan Van Schindel, and their longtime guitarist, Chester Lichon, departed a few years back (and even those 2 were not original members). Also, they rarely play out anymore (and for good reason - too many missed notes!). Secondly: There are hundreds of Rush tribute bands currently playing around the world (including quite a few in Brazil and, of course, Canada), and most of them have 3 members... so, sorry, but no self-respecting Rush tribute band would take the stage with more than 3 players; that's part of the challenge of "covering" Rush. Thirdly: Some of the best music fans in the world (and the Chicago area) are also some of the most beautiful women in the world (and the area)... and contrary to Christopher Borrelli's poorly written and researched article and sidebar, Rush fans DO enjoy the fairer sex, and do imbibe on occasion. Stereotypes, schmereotypes. I'd go on... but I have to go read some more "Atlas Shrugged" by Ayn Rand.

Hey Analog geek. I have seen ALL the Animation lineups over the past 22 years and while I agree the Dan Chet combo was fantastic, the current lineup ALSO rocks! Have you compared them to Chronicles? I want to see them and was VERY disappointed. The drummer pays no attention to the detail of Peart, and they are a 4 piece. PLUS when Animation plays out, they bring in 200 people usually, vs the 15 that were there for Chronicles. Jim Jay and Adam in Animation are doing a FINE job thank you!!! Lets see what YOU can do on stage before you blow smoke!!!!!!!

Hey Analog kid,
Have you ever seen Animation. Last year I caught them at Summerfest. I estimated there were over 10,000 RUSH Fans to see them. Since then I am a total Animation fan. The group is tight and true to Rush-isms... Get a life.....

Mike - I respect your opinion, but after seeing the current lineup of Animation 2 or 3 times, I have to say - the guitarist screws up too many riffs, and overall, the band sounds like it rarely gets together to practice, because they're just out of synch, especially when compared to the "classic" lineup of Animation (pre-Jay Spikes). I never said I could do any better on stage... I just think the band needs to tighten things up a bit.(I know they play Summerfest every year... but have you noticed they rarely pick up gigs at the clubs anymore?) And Women of Rush: I've seen Animation (in its various lineups) probably 200 times, so I speak from experience... not to mention, I've seen every Rush tour since Hemispheres. And I have a very nice life, thank you very much.
