YOU HAVEN'T A CHANCE , the person you appeal to is another Waldo cop, they have something close to a 100% conviction rate.
It's a dirty little old town that has had a decline in population.
Most if not all of the cops working there don't live there does that tell you something.

I agree the sheriff in Waldo is a jerk. The speed limit changes so frequently its easy to go above the limit

It is a shame that a little hick town thrives on ticketing the public in the face of the economy,If they were really looking out for the best interest of the lives of the people that pass through waldo, They would right warning tickests & maybe a small lecture on how speed kills. But they are more interested in sucking the public dry form 1 mile over to 15 over should never have a 400 penalty, Waldo suks & so do the people who inforce it., SHAME ON THESE LOW LIFE JERKS.

Well hells bells they're paid to catch speeders! It's not in their best interest to warn people because that would not pay for their salary or the vehicles they drive. The fine was $400 because it was in a SCHOOL ZONE! That costs $150 more! 15 miles over the posted speed is a big fat fine even without being in a school zone.

You think Waldo is bad try going 1 mph over the limit in Melbourne Beach Fla, as the fine is even posted on the white speed limit signs before you enter the area in 1 mph incremints over the limit.

What is it about people who speed? Most are not really in a hurry. Seems like no matter what the speed limit is, they have just got to go 5 or 10 mph faster! People need to slow down and enjoy life.imo And going west out of G'ville on 24, don't dare leave A car length between you and the car ahead of you......holding everyone up! hahahaha.....yeah, it's me:)

So you think it's right to have a police dept that runs solely on writing tickets? There is a bigger picture here & the picture i see is total BS. How about them same cops finish there shift & are in civilian attire, driving home from work through waldo where the speed is clearly posted 45 mph. And they are doing 60 mph or better & waving to there buddies that are set-up on the side of the road with radar, You are behind them & the cops jumps out on you & gives you the big ticket while the same off-duty civilian police officer just keeps rolling? you tell me where justification is?? I would really love to here the jackass responce to this, Bottom line is what they are doing is boarderline illegal & of course try fighting it at the cash register they call alachua county courthouse. you will find yourself in contept for being right & fighting for your rights. My original comments on them will always be felt.

No question in my mind that Waldo is a speed trap. So you say, "Don't speed and you won't get a ticket". Well, no kidding! But that has nothing to do with whether or not Waldo is a speed trap.

If Waldo REALLY wanted people to slow down through the school zones, they would put as many lights at the beginning of the school zones as they put on the front of their patrol cars. Shoot, even HALF as many lights would do it!

Take a look at the school zone markings and then take a look at the patrol cars. It's pretty obvious where the money is spent, and it sure isn't spent trying to make the school crossings more safe for the children.

If Waldo really wanted you to slow down through the school zones they would mark them a lot better. But, that would reduce the effectiveness of the speed trap so I don't count on THAT ever happening.

If you aren't actually speeding, they'll simply stop you and tell you you were as they write the ticket. Same over in Belleview from behind Publix on the back road through to the Springs. "Legal extortion". OLD news.

I use to live in Waldo on the south side of town on
301, at the last curve. My daughter's best friend was killed trying to cross the road when she was young. Also had our chain link fence knocked down several times. Once a semi overturned on that curve because of spending. Thought it would come through our house.
I was happy the police slowed some of them down.
No longer live there and kids did grow up crossing that road. I had to work and could't be home when they came home from school.
I also received a speeding ticket going to work early one morning.

Hey, i just got the same exact ticket. I was watching for the speed signs, not the overhead one that is less than 100 yards from the 35mph sign. The town does not give any notice of a school zone, i am very frustrated myself as i was not intentially speeding down the road. Did you contest? May have found state regulation stating signs need to be on righthand side of road where visible to all road users. Waldo does not do that. Also, one side of the road does post a warning sign, while the other does not. Also, if a school zone is new or a sign was changed after 07/01/08, they must post a speeding fines doubled sign, which they do not have. Hope this helps both of us

Just a comment ('Margie' and 'none ya' are obviously locals), but let me tell you, out-of-staters see a 35-MPH sign, but then turn right on 24 with no 'school zone' warning sign in sight, then flashing lights for 'speed limit 15 when flashing' and it's 12:40 pm. Get real! You do 31 and 20 feet in front of you is this sign! I don't think this is 'flying thru town'. I think this is a rip-off duly documented by AAA. And yes, I can read the speed trap signs on 301 southbound. And double-yes, I will never-ever again grace the vicinity of Lawtey or Waldo. No wonder it's poverty-stricken, god-forsaken place. And I will make sure anybody and everybody I can contact will be made aware of it.
this is absolutely true!!! got a ticket in the black pouring rain and was going 25 on the ramp, did not see the 15 mph sign as i couldnt see anything but was pulled over about 30 seconds after the sign and was almost pushed into the other side of the road with the aggressive approach of the police officer...and yes it was the early afternoon and pouring rain

SGregory, Check out the Fl statutes. Those school zones may be illegal. There are standards that they must meet, standards like posting signs and hours well before one hits the school zone. You can fight the ticket but expect that the judge will rule against you because the judge 'gives great weight to the officer's testimony' while ignoring yours altogether so make sure you get a copy of the trial transcript so that you can appeal. It will cost you but you can win and, sooner or later, these folks will be brought to account for their own crimes.

I got a $270 ticket on Christmas Eve driving down here through Waldo... Never again will I do that. It would have been cheaper to fly.

I've never seen a road where the speed limit changes so frequently. Within a two mile stretch it goes from 65 to 35 and jumps all around in between.

No mercy from the cops, even being Christmas. I'll be spending my Christmas morning completing the online driver improvement course so I can get the points off my license. Unbelievable. Wonder how they sleep at night...

Its pretty bad when the Cheif of police in Waldo M. A. Szabo. Feels he has the authority to accuse and belittle the very people he has sworn to protect.. It is my understanding that innocent until proven guilty and not to judge, i often thought there is supposed to be a search warrant before a vehicle can be searched..if probale cause is looking for a reason to search and making up things in order to be able to then commenting on legal items within a persons personal purse.. Note to Szabo..The reason to have a food stamp card duh... the bad economy ring a bell?? which is none of the Waldo PD Business. Also if someone has a h&R Block card,, good reason for that is its freaking tax time. And to ask someone why they have a sonagram picture then to comment they would have guessed it belonged to the passenger and not the driver is just uncalled for and mean, Not all Waldo PD has this bad of a bed side manor, just awful that they have a person in charge who is so demeaning and does not represent the well... Just saying.
