ROFL. He's a "good man" - a murderer with a bad bad temper! He needs to be locked away. He cannot be trusted not to do this again. I realize the guy he hit had his hands in his pocket and was very NOT intimidating. What a farce! Take him out into the desert and give him a single bullet... to the head.

Crazy is my feelings.....I know John and what had happend is a sad thing. Not just to Johns family, but to the other family as well. Justice needs to be served for Johns family!!!! If it isn't done here remember that we are not the jury on what happens after we die and JUSTICE will be served on JUDGEMENT day for Ben as you all call him!!! I know I would not want this man teaching my kid!!

Why is this man not coming out and defending himself? Why isn't his family defending him? They are the only peoples that know the story so if he is innocent lets hear his side. Wrongly accused peoples usually raise hell if they are not guilty. What do we make of no explanation from his side and the guy he killed family is saying a lot. We need a balance here,

I agree, a lack of judgement for a split second will rewrite this mans entire future. I read where the police say the security video tells what occurred and how. I think Ben needs to step up to the plate, make a plea for mercy to the court and work out a plea deal rather than take his chances in a LV court. Ya know, they have had a lot of issues there with violent crime lately and they want to show the public that they deal with is very strictly and seriously. They need to maintain a reputation as being a safe place to go. Ben is not a celebrity or a movie star or a football hero like OJ Simpson. I men, just think about it.

From what little we know it appears that both men made poor choices. John may have made inappropriate comments and created a situation where Ben felt threatened. We dont know - we were not there. Ben threw a punch - i doubt that killing a man ever entered Ben's mind. Both men screwed up and a tragedy resulted. I do not know the facts but I pray that true justice is administered. Throwing figuritive punches on this post at Ben or his family doesnt serve the interest of justice. Even without jail, Ben's life has been tragically altered - his career as an educator and coach will be ended. He still has a family that he's responsible for. Lets pray that the justice system is fair and unbiased.
This is the most intelligent comment that I have read about this situation. I have known Ben since middle school. I know that he never intended to kill anyone no matter what the situation was. However, I do understand that does not change the fact that a man is dead. I am praying for Ben and for both families as both families have essentially lost their father's. This is simply sad.

Noone will ever know what was said. How do we even know that what John said if anything was towards Ben Ben himself didn't even know when he talked to police. The initial report says Ben stated John said "Black guy something" I guess we will never know because "Ben" took it upon himself to take the voice of John away by sucker punching him and killing him. "Ben followed John out off the restroom so he pursued John. Ben could have walked a different direction. Ben could have kept walking and not stopped to confront John. John had his hands in his pocket when he was killed by this guy. But the judge in LV felt he needed to go home and be with his family. What about John's family. He was a father,a brother, a son, a friend, a coworker and an educator. He served our country. why didn't he deserve to go home... I hope justice is served for the families involved. Bens family will get to share their lives with him. John's family will never have that.

The video will show the truth. John had his hand's in his pockets when he was hit. I was not there to know what was said, however- it does not matter. There is plenty of security in Vegas. Hawkins could have just as easily taken the matter up with security. Instead, he reacted with violence. Hawkins is a coach and a teacher and should be a good example for the children he influences.
I do not believe Hawkins meant to kill John Massie, but at the end of the day he did! He needs to be held accountable for his actions! I am sure that Hawkins is a good man as well. However, her killed a man. It was not self defense, or racial! It was a bad decision that killed a man! We all should learn from the actions of this terrible decision. Two families have forever been changed. Hawkins family is a victim as well. John had full custody of his son. He was an amazing father. His son is at the age that he really needs his father. John also has 2 daughters who love and need their father. John also had is mother living with him. He was a major financial support for her. John was a major support in my life over the past 7 years. He spent countless hours helping me and my family. I know him as a loving father, son, brother, and friend. He spent a lot of time helping his neighbors and friends. John did not deserve to loose his life. Many people are greatly effected by the loss of John Massie. I know I will miss him everyday for the rest of my life.

I agree! John was taken away from his family and friends who all need him. Hawkins still has a voice to defend himself. His family will still get to see him. What a senseless act on Hawkins behalf!

Well, they will have to go to a LV Prison to see him. I don't know if he can do his time in FL, maybe Starke, if he gets his prison time transferred to FL from LV. I don't know if they do that stuff. The youth pastor at my church was on parole from LV but he was able to transfer down here. Don't know if the prison will do that.

He has gotten away with to many violent crimes especially against women when he was growing up. He was shot in the leg by a guy also who had to defend himself against Ben while growing up. He gas always had a violent history and was never dealt with the right way by law enforcement in Bradford County Fl while growing up. It does not surprise me at all that he did this. I know of several women he abused and beat over the years. Karma is a bitch and with all the good he may have done recently it finally has caught up with him. He should be put away for life!!

Some say that he is a killer and some say that he is not but in all actualality did kill osmeone whether he did it intentionally or not. But when you get picked for grand jury and you here all parts of this story this is when you get to decide whether he is guilty or not and then the judge will determine the punishment
