I see no reason for train horns to be blown, especially at crossings that have flashing red light warnings, some with gates too. Install a Stop Sign at every crossing. Drivers stop, look both ways and if a gigantic train isn't coming, you drive across! Semi-trucks aren't required to sound their airhorns when they have the right-of-way approaching an intersection when opposing traffic has a stop sign. And why don't rural crossings without flashing lights already have stop signs?

It's because people in this country are irresponsible drivers and expect everything to be done for them...(I don't mean to sound judgemental but there is a posting somewhere in topix stating that all new cars should be equiped with automatic headlights so that people wouldn't have to be worried about being pulled over due to the new OH law regarding headlights in the rain...that's just damn lazy). Rest assured, there is going to be some idiot in the near future that is going to try to take the city and RR company to court when they get taken out at a crossing by a train or one of the new gates...

Way to go Springfield! Job well done! I have been to the Springfield Inn and heard the trains - not too loud, but there is a solution. Trains provide a necessary and valuable service and can co-exist with today's society.
