SURE, quiet the horns and watch how many people get run over.

Which was there first, the businesses and homes or the train tracks? The sound of the trains rumbling along the tracks is wonderful, along with their whistles. I live near the tracks and won't have it any other way.

No, go through the gate and get run over.

The horn serves a purpose. First time someone claims not to have heard it - guess what? Besides, some of us like them. Have one that echo's up the valley and I hear it at night - even wakes me up sometimes - I don't mind.

I realize the horns serve a purpose. But they do not need to lay on the horns for 20-30 seconds 2 or 4 times. Especially at 3:00 in the morning.

What is going on in the world? If you don't like it, make someone change it to suit YOUR likes or dislikes. That's BS! How many times do you hear of accidents involving trains? I don't care how safe you think you are making a crossing, some idiot will think it doesn't apply to them and SMACK! another train accident statistic.

Leave the trains alone. They were here looooooong before you were!

In case you didn't know - the number of times a horn is blown - how long it is held - and how much time between blasts is all part of the rules Engineers MUST follow to keep their licenses - rules designed to save lives.

I'm sorry you live close enough for it to be a bother - but they serve a purpose and are part of the rules designed to save lives.

Then Emergency vehicles should tone down on the sirens at that time too.

this is one of the most assanine things i've heard (no pun intended).....train horns are to protect people!!!

when you move somewhere you need to take train tracks nearby into account! this is like people who move into a metro park and then complain about all the deer...

I would expect to hear alot more train horns in the near future.

Diesel fuel is rapidly becoming too expensive for tractor trailers. Trains are becoming a much more economicable alternative to over the road hauling.

silence the trains, trucks can not use their jake brakes, freeway walls to combat the noise for the people that build homes on top of the highway...what is next. No noise from the jets...silence the birds...turn off the world????

I live about 250 yards from a "quiet zone". Sure they rarely blow their horns anymore, but they also don't bother to oil their g-d wheels, creating the most horrendous screeching sounds. So quieting the horns is sort of a moot point.

Here we go again. Can you folks stop your crying about evey little issue. I am just throwing this one out there but I bet all you folks purhcased your homes after the railroad laid their rails....Just saying. Because I can not recall the last time the rail road was laying tracks behind my house. Side note: BUFFOON ALERT: Your comment is about the dumbest I read in a long time. Emergency vehicles must activate their lights/sirens when going through intersection so some mental midget does not pull out infront of them coming to save your butt.

What about the poor, unsupervised kid who is playing on the tracks? No gate is going to protect them.

Leave the trains alone!

I agree, I live near some myself. I would welcome an occasional horn, but the screeching and the cars banging into each other is what wakes me up.

It sounds like we just had a four car accident right outside my house.
