I find it scandalous that the Roman Catholic Church could and would honor this un-repentant pro-abortionist with a grand Catholic funeral. He was also very pro-gay. These are totally against official church teachings, yet, the church honors him as "A great American, and a great Catholic" (??). The church also approves yet another very pro-abortionist (Obama) to deliver his eulogy.
Is the church so weak in defending its teachings that it approves of this blatant hypocrisy?
I have worked for the Pro-Life movement for several years, but as of today, I have resigned my membership in the organization because what my church has done is to tell all of us that you can be a pro-abortionist and still be honored by the church. All our work for Pro-Life has been a damned joke to the church.
Cardinal Sean O'Malley should be excommunicated for allowing this hypocrisy in the church he should have defended. Maybe he was seeking the approval of the world instead of seeking the approval of God. As the Bible says.."What does it profit a man to have gained the whole world and loose his own soul"?
None of this crap could have happened prior to Vatican ll, but with all the new changes also came seeking approval of the world.
This scandal is very damaging and I don't know that I even want to come to the church anymore. The church's honor of this low life scum is a serious sin and the church's leadership needs to suffer for it!!!
If someone were to ask me if I were a Catholic, I feel that I would be too embarrassed to admit it!!

I'd love to know what post #1 was, before it was deleted.
He's Kennedy. I'm sure he gave and gave a lot to the church. When you're an affluent, people have a way of giving you "special" treatment.
Too bad he'll not be buried next to Mary Jo.....

the date that he died on puts into perspective his role as both Catholic and politician.

I agree a lot with post #2. But I'm not surprised by this chain of events as you see I liken these days to the time of the Borgias when a rich powerful family could always have their way by buying a corrupt spineless clergy who will not defend the teaching of the Church. Mind this is Boston and the east which gave us the sex scandal. This clergy has basically made the Sacraments irrelevant and meaningless as it seems one can be a drunk, women chaser, cause the death of a young woman, legislate and promote abortion murder for thirty years, then just before you die, donate some money to the Church, say a few words to a priest then you pass go. God's house in America is divided.

I don't believe any church should deny anyone a Christian burial.
He will be judged by God.

Such desecration of hallowed ground.
A weed beside the rose.
Assured, not he with them would die,
Yet, worthy, thought he, with them to lie,
A coward beside heroes.
