A bill to help veterans in finding jobs for veterans for veterans that had passed in the House has been voted down in the SEnate by Republicans. the bill--Senate Bill S3457 even had the parts added into the bill that thsoe who voted the billl down then voted against the bill. That vote and rejection of our veterans that give their all for our country proves just what the republicans and even Mitt "MITTENS" Romney thinks of our 47 percenters, even thsoe in the military. The republicans said no to the Senate Bill 3457 even after they got what they wanted put into the bill---they even voted against their own bill. Why would they treat our veterans thsi way

Pappy, the senate has a democratic majority so it would not be possible for republicans to defeat or vote down a bill in the senate. If the bill was defeated, it would have to be with the help of democrats. Here is a link to the status of the bill: http://www.govtrack.us/congress/bills/112/s34...
You will see that the bill was introduced in late July but has not yet been voted on in the house nor the senate. If you would like to read the text of the bill you can go to this site:

It takes 60 votes to get a bill through the Senate and you know that SunShine. And also the Republicans can filibuster a bill and killit without a vote. Is that clear enough Sunshine. But of course you already know that do you not. Just another part of the reception to the Ryan AARP speech--there was booing throughout his speech. there seemed to be alot of BOO BIRDS there.

You are very wrong that a Bill in the Senate can not be defeated because it is Democratic held. All Votes need 60 votes to pass and if it doesn't receive 60 it does not pass. Learn before you speak. This Bill lost by two votes and should not have lost by any. The GOP is disgraceful and should be removed from power, period. I am a Republican and this is by far the worst group I have ever seen. Disgusted and not voting for them.

There are 51 Democrats, 47 Republicans and 2 independents (they vote with the Democrats) in the senate. I disagreed with you on your statement that republicans voted the bill down. That is not possible. As you say, it takes 60 affirmative votes for a bill to pass. Even if all 47 republicans voted against the bill, they would need at least 13 democrats for the bill to pass. Your title on this thread is incorrect.

I have not seen any news on this. Why in the world would Ryan speak before the AARP? That group turned it back on the people that it was purported to represent? Where was this speech and who were the attendees?

Go back and read my post #4 again. What I said was it could not be defeated by REPUBLICANS as the title of this thread states.

That is correct. There are 47 republicans in the senate. If only 47 republicans voted to defeat this bill it could not pass as you have stated.

When was this bill voted on and defeated? As of last Thursday, the government's web site showed that neither the house nor the senate has voted on the bill. Can you give us a link to the bill being lost by two votes? See the links in post #4.

This was followed by a speech from obama telling lies. "During a video appearance at the AARP Life@50+ conference earlier in the day, Obama had told members that Ryan’s claim that $716 billion had been cut from Medicare services was “simply not true.”

“Contrary to what you’ve heard and what you may hear from subsequent speakers, Obamacare actually strengthened Medicare,” the president explained." And those poor souls believed what obama was saying.

Its always bisased or lies when Obm speaks or others that speak against the republicans. But it seems teh boo birds did not liek what they heard from Ryan one bit. Just as you said the Republicans can not stop a bill in the senate. but they did. It as killed And they have also filibutered the other bills to death before the Vets Jobs bill. How didyou like the bit in the seante where te Seanator from old Mass used the excuse of having to vote in the Seante and old ol Harry closed the vote for the day just so the Senaotro could go to his debate to ebate his democratic opponent in Massacuttets. Seems the debate went very bad fr the republican

Pappy, I did not say anyone was biased but I did say that obama lied and he did. He said that republicans were lying when they say that obamacare takes $716 billion from medicare. Read the bill! It does take 716 billion from medicare. obama is lying but the people believe him. Obamacare does not strenghten medicare. The goal of obama is to eventually desolve medicare and merge it with obamacare. Don't you suspect that the people leaving when Ryan started speaking was planned? At the very least, the people were beyond rude.

If republicans cannot stop a bill in the senate as you state how did they stop it. It has to be one way are the other. It can't be both. I asked previously, when did this vote take place? I posted a link to the government's site which says as of last Thursday that it has not come up for vote in the house nor in the senate.

Thanks, Big Bear. I'm voting against obama. I'm not looking forward to wearing a burka or hijab or whatever you call that garb. Can you imagine how hot that thing would be in the Oklahoma heat? I keep asking Pappy for a link to his information or just tell me where he got the information but no luck yet.

That's right. Democrats do that most of the time. They attach trash that has nothing to do with the bill. If it is voted down, they blame the republicans for voting down a bill such as this one when they were voting against the trash.

In complete contrast to yesterday, you have your head screwed on firmly today. Yet you won't be boringly sensible or drearily practical, so there's no danger of you having turned into a dry old stick overnight. It's a good day for keeping track of important details and processes, such as confirming a forthcoming appointment or filling in a form and then making a copy of it before sending it off.
