If what I have been told is true, many of these children were being raised by single moms. I am not saying their dad's were not active in their lives...they may have been. But to the dad's of these male victims I have this to say:

Pleeeease be aware that your sons's need you more than ever right now. They need to know you are proud of them. They need to hear you say, "this was not your fault, son." They need to see you maintain your cool and not "go off" ranting about taking matters into your own hands in referrence to Brad. They need to know you still see them as good kids...that you believe them and support them now and in the future.

IF any of these dads were not close to their children before this happened...its not too late to build a relationship. If you don't know how to feel or what to say or how to reconnect, seek out a professional, a pastor, a trusted male friend with a good relationship with his own kids, and talk to them...get some advise and perspective from other good dads.

Praying for all the parents that they will allow this tragedy to bring them closer together as a family, not tear them appart.

@mindbender: I really appreciate your posts because they are accurate to the point and in defense of these young people. I am praying that our community will provide them with the counseling they need from REAL counselors. I pray that the parents of other children will sit them down and talk to them about being kind to and supportive of these young people and not attach a stigma to them because they do not deserve this. I would like to say my own son needed counseling and received it from a qualified counselor here in McCurtain County. He was greatly helped and got a new perspective on his situation.(I will say that all of this had me questioning him to see if his counselor was professional with him and he was--of course it was not Brad.)My thinking is that as a community WE OWE THOSE KIDS.

If I were a health care worker I would be outraged as well. It seems that this was all too easy to pull off.

I have also noticed that this has brought out many people that have been molested during their lifetime and did not seek or were not given justice. My prayers are with you all and I hope if healing has not happened it will at this time. We all need to make a stand that we want justice for all and will not tolerate the bending of laws to suit local opinion. We are the voters and we need to be watching. God bless all.

You girl sound like a fool. Receiving "harsher punishment"?? WTH are you talking about? He has not even had a trial yet. For all we know he gets life in prison. He has NOT had punishment yet. You make a comment that his mom wants him on the streets to continue traumatizing boys? Are you sick? You sound like a typical McCurtain County moron. Probably an Obama Voter too.

no way man sorry but any decent person even a mother would not enable this to happen sure as hell wouldn't urge him not to be held accountable for his actions, and finance his little fleeing the state..and it is also because of who she is that he is not recieving harsher punishement than he is...she wants him loss on the streets so he can keep tramatizing children and destroying lives...no much character in that if you ask me...and you posted so you did :)

I agree with you ALL THE WAY???? Where were these Moms????? Oh well lets see...probably can't remember..right?? Out of sight out of mind!!!!
mothers are not to blame...they never knowingly left their child or let their child go with someone they thought may potentially harm them...GIVE ME A BREAK !!!! These mother's are guilty of nothing except trusting a very notable memeber of the community with their child. His paper has frequented our papers here for years. Winning some award one week, going on tour the next, opening for some festival the next, serving on the main street board the week after that..

Sorry it took me so long to respond to your encouraging post. Not just encouraging to me, but your words also give reassurance and hope to the families involved that a brighter day is ahead and that this tragedy does not have to define their lives or their future. I'm sorry for whatever dificult times your child went through and I'm pleased he recieved good services. There are many good therapists out there ready to help.

But let me say this... it is important for any client to feel comfortable with the therapist they see. If after 4 or 5 sessions you do not feel the kind of trust and connection you need to open up and begin to explore what you are there to work on, then please...tell your therapist how you feel...let them know you don't feel you have a raport with them. THEY WON'T be offended if they are truley professional. They can make a referral to another therapist for you. Don't just give up if you don't connect with the first MHP you work with...shop around until you find a good fit and then stick with them. It's not always fun...you won't always feel better when you leave the office, but that is because you are doing the work and growing...and growing often means having 'growing pains'. I know...before I was an LPC, I was a client sitting in an overstuffed chair in a stranger's office...wondering, "where do I begin..."

That's exactly what I was thinking. I don't remember the James Burton story having any similarities like this. Some people just like to stir the pot. The person that posted that probably doesn't even know the entire story of James Burton. I don't remember much about it, but enough to know that his wife wasn't the bad guy! Geesh folks, come on now!!

Known him for decades. Don’t understand your comments about the ex-wife. But do you “really” know that family and its history in Alabama, Mississippi and LeFlore county Oklahoma before they moved to Broken Bow? Do you really know what the ex-wife does? Do you really know what the daughters do? Do you really know what the grandchildren are exposed to? Not the church family they portray. Do you really know Brad Porton?

What exactly are you implying? I know parts of this family VERY well. Do you really know them? I think it's beyond ridiculous for you to assume (and make others assume) things that you don't know as fact. Why don't we attack your family on a public forum. I'm sure we can dig up some skeletons fairly easily.

Who's x-wife?? And are you referring primarily to Brad Porton's family in this post?

When a person or family chooses to be in the public eye by becoming active in the community, by standing up on stage and singing, becoming a member for many civic organizations...The light shines on them, the micropscope rather. If someone does'nt not want to be scrutanized for their negative behaviors then they should not put themselves out in the public eye to begin with.

If you read earlier in the thread someone compared James Bruton's mis-conduct at a local pharmacy and loss of his pharmacy license to the accusations against Brad Porton at Sherrill's pharmacy. Then someone attacked them for their comment.

Follow the thread. Maybe you should read what I was replying to. I wan't referring to Brad Porton and his family at all. Someone else had brought up the Bruton family and making unfounded accusations about them.

THERE ARE soooo MANY THREADS. I DO THE BEST I CAN TO KEEP UP. Not interested in the Bruton's family problems. If someone is then they should consider starting a Bruton thread of their own.
