First of all...I too am so sorry you lost your father Caleb. My two oldest children lost their dad and they are thinking about you a lot during this time. My son and I were there during the fire and I want you to know that every thing that could be done was done to try and save your dad and that the fire itself did not hurt him. It had to have been the smoke. Also, by the time anyone knew there was a fire, he and his friend were already gone. The neighbors all tried to get in the house. Not anyone that was across the street "smiling" as someone else commented knew that your dad was in the house. The fire department is not allowed to tell anyone but the family. When your Aunt and Grandfather were called, then that is when the neighbors that were helping were told. Everyone that I saw there were doing what they could to help, cryed for you and your family and did what we could to help with the dogs in your grandfather's back yard. I also want you to know that the fire department were there within minutes after they were called. The problem was that by the time the fire was seen by neighber's, the house had already been burning for a while. It was no one's fault. I am so sorry! I love your grandfather, he is such a dear man. If he stay's here in town, know that we will all help to look after him. A huge hug to you and your sister.....

Can you guys stop the fighting back and for and show a little respect for the family and friends here. This is getting a little out of hand. Exchange emails and argue that way. It is over, they did what they could at that time and as a neighbor and by standard they did a damn good job of it. So let it rest.
SHOW A LITTLE RESPECT to the family!!!!!

In which town is it acceptable for an ambulance to have a 20 minute response time?!? EMSA has 5 minutes and 59 seconds to respond to a code 1 emergency then they are fined $100.00/minute for each minute they are late. Remember the story of the little boy who was thrown out of the car and the car rolled on him and his dad took him to the fire department before leaving the scene? The fire department had to call PARAMEDICS as they were not equipped to deal with the situation. An ambulance is stocked like an intensive care unit in a hospital. There is not much a medic cant do to save a life on board an ambulance. A fire truck is equipped to PUT OUT FIRES. It is not equipped to save lives. Additionally, consider the COST of running two emergency vehicles to one scene with one patient. In these times of Broken Arrow (along with several other cities)getting ready to lay off city employees they need to save money. And the cost isn't just in dollars. As I said earlier, it is a dangerous and unessecary practice for innocent bystanders as well as firefighters and paramedics, because if you are running hot you are at greater risk for accident or injury. I wonder how this story would have come out if there had been fire fighters closer when the fire started? Maybe no different, but we will never know.

Caleb & Memory, I have to say your father was a wonderful man. We have lived 2 houses down for about 6 years. Your father and I had converstaions about the hard times and the good. We all have hard times. But deep down inside he was a wonderful man, loving, kind and would do for others. Our children loved playing and petting the dogs as we & Kimberly walked the dogs with a smile on his face; everytime. They were so nice to our children.
I want you to remember one thing; your father loved you both very, very much. Just because he is not on this earth with us anymore does not mean he is not watching after you every moment. He is now your guardian angels.
Buffy, Wendell & Scott; we are here for your all; what ever we can do to help. You all are in our prayers and thoughts. Love to you and your entire family.

Does a firetruck have a stretcher or O2 ?? I'm sorry a firetruck does not have the lifesaving equipment for a body(not a house/building)that an ambulance does. Firetrucks are equipped to fight FIRES.

To answer your question as to O2, yes the engines carry portable O2. They also carry a Lifepak 12 and a fully stocked Thomas Pack. The engine crew usually has at least one paramedic on board and is fully capable and trained to interviene in any medical emergency up to and including full codes. If you or MSDT would like to come by and visit one of Broken Arrow's six stations, I'm sure we would be more than happy to give you guys a tour and fully explain exactly what we do and how we do it. We take great pride in what we do, and feel we do it as good or better than anyone in the State.

OMG! I haven't been on here in a while. I didn't realize I started a debate. I was in NO WAY implying BAFD didn't do a great job. I know you did. MSDT is out of this discussion as I don't feel this is the appropriate place to discuss it. I probably should have kept my opinion to myself. I wasn't putting anything down but policies; NOT FIREFIGHTERS! To the family: I am so sorry about all this. I in no way intended to start all this. Please accept my deepest sympathy on the loss of your beloved father/family member/friend. You are all in my prayers.

i work down the street from a fire station and when a medical call comes in, they send out wht looks to me like a red suburban with lights and a siren so that none of their actual trucks are out in case of a fire. why are you people debating on who is right and who is wrong when responding to an emergency. the way i see it, whoever gets there first is the one that can possibly save that life that much faster. quit bickering over it. but thats beside the point, the point is that 2 people lost their lives and families have lost the ones they love and your fighting isn't going to change that. to the families, i am truely and deeply sorry for your loss. you are in my thoughts and prayers. and regardless of the other comments, im sure the others on here are too.

To all of us who loved and knew Matthew we have lost a great, loving , kind , compassionate friend and family member. To those of who were not acquainted with him you missed out on a true blessing . Matt, I should have told you many more times how much the phone calls meant offering to help me with whatever Uncle Tom needed or if you could do anything to help the rest of us.You always made me smile and your laughter still rings . Sometimes we take for granted things that people do for you and how much someone so young can care about others , we will miss you so much . I sit and remember the times we had when you all were here and the thunderstorm that scared you so bad when you were little , we learned how quickly you could find a safe bed to crawl into. Matt, you loved your mom so much and you did everything you could to save her when she passed away, for the past 6 years she has watched you grow from the heavens above now you are in her arms once again feeling her love. You loved your family with all your heart and your children were your world . Caleb and Mems , you always remember the good times and know just how much daddy loved you , You were his pride and joy , you were his life . You have a wonderful grandfather and uncle and aunts that will always be here for you . If you ever need anything you know where we are and you know that we loved your daddy so much . When God made this world and included our heavenly home he planted a garden of beautiful flowers , he never needed to weed because he always picked the best to be there. When he took your daddy he shared this garden with him . As you look at our gardens here on earth you will see many varieties of beautiful flowers each symbolizing someone you love ; you find that beautiful flower that reminds of daddy and each time you see it you smile with memories of all his love for you , he will live forever in your hearts and minds, we share those memories with you . Thank you allowing us that opportunity. Wendall and kids we love you so much and we will always cherish the times we had with Matthew .See you soon .

I was so saddened to hear of Matt and Kim's deaths. I didn't know Matt, but I grew up with Kim. We had lost touch over the years, but I've been thinking about her a lot lately. My heart and prayers go out to both families. Caleb and Memory, I didn't know your father, but I am so sorry for your loss and I know nothing anyone says at this point can help. To Kim's family: I'm so sorry for your loss and will be praying for your family in the months to come.

I was a good friend of Kim's in high school! I was actually older, but played basketball with her. She became like my little sister and we did everything together. We lost touch over the years after high school, but I have very fond memories of her and will never forget what a great friend, beautiful person, and will cherish all of the memories I have with her. I will be praying for her family. What a blessing to have known her. She had the greatest smile! If you didn't know Kim, you truely missed out! We will keep her memory alive! Your Redskin family loves you!

Here we are almost almost 5 years later and I miss you just as much as the day you passed. I think about you all the time. I was truly a daddys girl. Well daddy as you know already you have a grandson he looks just like u. Probably because I look just like you. And he is my whole world. He is 7 months old and his name is Grayson Ray Smith. I thought about doing Grayson Matthew Wade Smith but I thought that would be confusing when around Caleb. I'm married to my husband Steven who is the navy and daddy he is wonderful. You'd really like him. We have two boys Caden and Grayson. and I hope we have a little girl. God I miss you so much. I wish you were here.
