BAF try these links...You have to sign up for an account but what it is you will type him a letter online and then send it over there but you will need his address as well then it is printed and he will get your typed message, it's basically writing a letter to him, it's just that he won't have to wait the 7-10 days to get it they usually get them with in 24 hours..the only bad thing is they can only be so many characters..
If it's any comfort my husband told me it's starting to calm down over there and not as bad as all the other times he was over there...Hope that is at least some comfort to you...But, he will still remain in my prayers as all the men and women over there will...

Thank you so much, AJ! As soon as I read your post I went to your links and set up an account with both. I have already sent my 1st letter. I can't believe you can include pics with the letter as well! The 24 hour delivery time sure beats the heck out of 7-14 day snail mail. How very cool!!!
The MarineParents.com site has a live chat tomorrow night for the parents of his company to meet, and discuss, and ask questions. I think I will find that helpful as well as comforting, to be able to connect with people in the same shoes as I. Now I don't feel like such a "lost soul" hehe.
I KNEW there was a reason ED K introduced me to you RIGHT HERE last January!!!
Yes, it is comforting to hear what your hubby says. Very much so. The name of his mission almost sounded like the name of a romance novel, if you know what I mean. There is still so much uncertainty and unrest over there as well. I know you know how I feel if anyone does having had a son and still a husband doing their jobs.

Hope you and your family have settled in and are liking your new surroundings. Thank you again for your information and prayers. They are very much appreciated. You and yours are in mine as well.

Hope all is well with you, I did see where your son did get to call you. I'm sure it was the highlight of the day. Just wanted you to know we're still with you and to check in on how the care package business is going.
Thanks, Phil. You want to really know about the care package business? Two words...BASEMENT FULL!!! HA

I have already been to the post office and brought home many flat rate boxes and am going to begin organizing and packing this weekend. My goal at this point is one a month. I just hope I can stick to the "just one a month" rule...

Average Joe, I forgot to ask you for your opinion on an idea I have.

Chad will be turning 21 the end of August. I am trying to put together a "surprise" 21st birthday party in a box, by mail for him.

Any suggestions, ideas ????

Thank you for asking, Air Cav. I haven't heard from him since his arrival phone call 10 days ago. He went over early with a small group to set up everything. I am hoping he is okay and is just very busy getting everything ready.
Thanks to AJ, I sent him a letter yesterday that I have already rec'd confirmation on delivery.
And, of course, I told him to contact me as soon as he could.

Your idea of the gold chain with the Eagle, Globe & Anchor is a wonderful idea. He would love that!
I wasn't able to go to Lejeune to see him off, but I had a beautiful snow globe/music box with that symbol in the middle. The music box played "From The Halls Of Montezuma". He loved it!

I am trying to figure out if a freshly made cake without the icing would make it to southern Iraq still edible. I would put the Betty Crocker store bought container of icing in with it and let him ice it before he eats it. My hubs says, heck yeah, it would make it! I just don't want a stale, hard as a rock, molded cake being unwrapped. YUCK!

I spent all day today scanning pictures and making a DVD of his late sister's life with the family and put it to music as one of his gifts. It turned out beautifully, if I do say so myself.

I don't know if they have any opportunity to wear civilian clothing at all while they are there, but I bought him some Hawaiian Tropic flip flops, a flowered shirt and of course a UT baseball cap.

I have a myspace page with many, many of his friends on there. I was also thinking about having them send me cards, letters, etc. to put into the package. I think he would like that. Tell them to write to him as if they were there at his big 21st! Ha! That would be cool, if I can get it all together in time to make it there.

Butterfly;

glad to hear all is well and it sounds like you son will have a great 21 eventhough he is far from home. Kudos for all you do.

Average Joe

Good to see you posting again and hope you are about settled in. I'm sure that because your Hubby just came off a tour you can be great support for Butterfly.

Air cav

That was a great idea. You know sometimes we as old soldiers who have been that route
know more what the families need to hear then anyone else.

I am sure you are right. You know my father was a Marine, I presented the flag at his funeral as a PFC. I also still have his flag encased. He chose the Marines I chose the Army . There is a long military History in my family. Crossing all branches Just recently a cousin was appointed to the coast guard academy, first for anyone in that Branch.

Lord knows I tried often enough to explain to Alice you can't tear away the honor and pride of a Soldier, Marine, Airman or Seaman. Once in the blood stays in the blood

Marines are not to blame for Bush's immoral invasion of Iraq that is now killing America's security and economy. It will always be a blight on America's honor.

Just got back from vacation, Butterfly, and glad to see that AJ provided you with the correct link for Motomail. It was quite awhile ago since I last used it, so I couldn't remember the exact link.

When my son was over in Iraq last year, he said that it was starting to settle down around where he was at in late August, and said that it remained that way by the time he came back the first of this year. From what I understand, it's still that way, so hopefully you can feel a little at ease. But we, as mother's, never stop worrying about our youngin's, do we?

Bush illegally invaded a country that hadd nothing to do with the attacks on 9-11. He just wanted to pelase israel and rip off oil. We are all paying for it now.
