I know someone who got arrested for stopping on the turnpike to urinate, and he is now labeled a sex offender! Also, underaged teenagers who post pictures of themselves naked online or who e-mail them are considered to be distributing child pornography and they may also end up being labeled sex offenders. Just remember, not everyone who is labeled a sex offender is labeled as such for molesting a child. This is not a "one fits all" situation, and it's really getting quite ridiculous.

Unfortunate but true, in some instances. One of my neighbor's kids "mooned" a room full of kids/teens. Although he had just turned 18 himself, was only a couple of months than most there, it was purely as a joke, and had no "sexual intention"; and adult saw it, reported it, and now he is fighting a "sex offender" label in court. I'm sure no one particularly cared to see his posterior, but this is another case of taking something to the extreme.

This is my Broadview at Peter's. I thought everyone knew about these houses. It was a Broward Sheriff's deputy that told me about them. They are halfway houses, last I'd heard. And yes, there is an elementary school right in the neighborhood.
But I must agree with Not a One... You said it quite well. I do feel for people who can't live anywhere but under a bridge, thanks to the laws we have today.

Problem is that ANYONE can easily be required to register as a sex offender. If he is a person who is 18 and has a 16 year old girlfriend and gets caught copping a feel and is arrested, he is required to register.

The new crime that requires registering is "sexting" which is when one kid sends another kid a naked photo over their cellphone and is caught.

If a couple is going through a divorce and the mother accuses the father of molesting his kids, on the register he goes. Even with no evidence proving his guilt.

I am not defending REAL sex offenders. Only that everyone is jumping on this bandwagon and not understanding just how easy it is to get on that list.

yes its true, there are always exceptions to the rule, especially the mooning the kids one.

i am glad that they are trying to find housing for these people, even if they are bad and did evil things.

i tknow that the sex offenders in miami have to live under a bridge, the miami causeway i think. i might be mistaken, but they live under a bridge, cause its the only place in miami.

perhaps if we have a place like a nudist colony, where there are signs everywhere warning everyone that naked people are behind the walls.

I think it's ridiculous to label teenagers as sex offenders, such as some of the comments above, mooning, sexting, etc. I think sex offender status should be for child molesters and rapists. If they do their time and are released, where are they supposed to go? Like another poster who said about them living under a bridge, that's true, and the officials know they are there because they can't find a place to live. Perhaps there should be an apartment building designated only for them. Keeping them homeless is not the answer. Kids are everywhere, grocery stores, malls, libraries, it's a real problem, however, we just have to keep our kids near us at all times.

Urinating on the road will not get you labeled a sex offender. There had to be more to it then that.
