I will miss Elliott's Dairy. It was there when we moved in 37 years ago. I had hoped it would never close; it was so convenient and friendly. I was very upset when I pulled up and saw the sign "Out of Business".

Another piece of America lost.

OMG! My son just told me that while I was in Florida Elliott's closed. What a shame. It was such a wonderful store and will be sorely missed.

I have been eating their goods for 50 years. I have no idea what I will do now. A tragic event this is.

I know the property itself is on the market for 2.9 million. It's been for sale for awhile. But the business itself is not for sale. Among the many issues was the freezers they had. They turned them down at night. You could tell by the tarps they kept on top of the freezers and the taste of the ice cream. I just think they could have gone out with some class. Maybe a good-bye sale? I just hope all those people that lost their jobs got to clean the place out.(the food) I also will miss the place ALOT.

I came from the suburbs for their hot corned beef, barrel pickles and chocolate donuts. I was one of my guilty weekend pleasures. First Kiddyland, now Elliott's. What's next? Since I am addicted to their donuts does anyone know what bakery they came from?

Someone just told me that they are from Allegretti's Bakery which is located at Lawrence and Canfield. I believe that is either Norridge or Harwood Hts. They also have been around for a very long time. They also have great pumpkin cheese pies that are available at holiday time. You could call and ask them if they sold their bakery goods to Elliotts. Hope this helps. |

and they did not turn the freezers down at night those tarps were to cover the meat case PS

Very sad. I have no idea where to get rye bread now.

Allegrettis provided Elliott's with some of their bakery products
Allegretti's is located in Norridge at 7717 Lawrence, if you haven't been to Allegretti's before, stop by and begin a new tradition. It is run by Michael Allegretti, I have been going there for over 40 years. May I suggest the chocolate pound cake, they will even sell you half. |
So sad,it's gone but it will not be forgotten.

The property being for sale is no secret now. There is a TROY REALTY for sale sign posted. I hate to harp on it but when I would buy Deans sundae cones the cone would be chewey. All the other issues don't matter now. I might have been mistaken about the tarps, but I know for a fact OVEN FRESH bakery in the Harlem Foster shopping center has GREAT butter cookies. They are between Pet Supplies Plus and a bank.

Judged: 1 1 1 BTW I have gone into Jewel and had bad meat, chewy ice cream, stale bread, etc. Give me a break! Elliotts has been in business for a long time, and one of the owners has been with Elliotts since 1989, in which he was not "showy" at all. If anything he was too nice of a guy. He really cared about his employees and his customers. He busted his ass for Elliotts. To all of you Elliotts customers, don't be surprised if you see an "Elliotts Jr." popping up somewhere in the neighborhood with the same lunchmeats and bakery items (pickles too). |
The last time I was in there, you could see the writing on the wall. The property was for sale for close to $3.4 million. Sam Zitella was going to buy the property but the trustees in Harwood Hts said no more condos so Zitella pulled out of the deal.
It was very rude the way the place closed. Who knows if the owners left a bunch of debt and ran off?? |
u go andilyn. i worked there til the day they closed. i know what happened. the mangers wer like parents to me. they treated us very well.
