what in the world does the new captain think he's doing with the crew he thinks he can run it like fedex and tell everyone he is going to suspend them if they do the smallest thing he is going to find out the hard way this is a good reason why you should be a volunteer for 5 years before you attempt to be a captain.

His name is Bo Dotson. He was a member back in the 80's. He was there a good while before I got there a good while after I left and I was there from 1884 to 1989.

I think he is a real nice guy but he is not ready to be a captain telling people they can't do things that he has no control over he has no clue how to be a captain he just thinks he can change things over night. He is just not ready I think you need to hold a line office before you jump into captain he gonna be like Obama 1 term unless he makes a 180 turn around January ain't over and people are like what have we done

I agree with you. BLSC is a volunteer organization with a few that are paid I guess. Alot of people there spend time away from family to pull duties, train and go to a business meeting 1 thursday a month if you all still do it that way. It would be very sad to run people off. Back in the day we had to run people off at night because there was not enough bunks. It would be nice if it was still like that, but like you said that was the 80's and this is now!

A captain is useless without his crew, a crew is immobile without their captain. Be loyal to each other as No one should serve for personal or selfish reasons, but only to provide a necessary service for those whose very lives are depending on you.

But he wants to run it his way or the highway can't do anything on your own or he climbs all over you he can't leave personal matters out he is threatened by several people and he tries to tell them what they can do and that's not gonna fly

It does sound like he is having a very hard time adjusting to the position and his "new found" authority, and I do hope that the situation finds a balance before it causes a severe loss of motivation among the members, and causes several to resign because of it.
I would like to thank you and all of BLSC for your dedication and unselfish acts in your service to the people and the community. We might not always say it, but we are always proud and comforted in knowing that we can depend on you for help in a moments notice during tragic events.

Simply put, people need to be held accountable for their actions. If they mess up, then something has to be done. This is not only the job of the Capt, but of every Line Officer, Board Member and Crew Member as well. The reputation of the care and quality of care provided to the patients has suffered because of the failure of previous Officers to respond to certain situations. BLSC is an organization with mostly volunteers, however, there are till standards and expectations that must be upheld by all members (volunteer and PAID.) Some things should change overnight!!

It is funny what people consider "personal", like posting on Facebook, Myspace and even here. It has already been proven that most organizations enforce policies that prohibit "trashing" the organization or other members of the organization.

The Captain cannot take action by himself, but has to present that to the Executive Committee for action. So, any action that occurs is a result of a group of people, not just the Lone Ranger!

Also, Bo Dotson was elected to his position by a majority of voting members present on the night of election. He meets all criteria for holding the office of Captain. He has been a full member for the time required by the By-Laws, he has been a Line Officer, and meets all other criteria.

Someone previously suggested that Crew Members need to support each other and this includes those Negative Nancy's on this site.

Sounds like the Captain is placing Control factors in place to protect the interest of the Crew! With this being said it is only natural a few people like yourself would not agree. Why dont you go get the dude a cup of coffee and help him out! Sounds like he has his hands full!

I guess trying to make the crew all paid is his big idea he has bad ideas and dont think that's in the crews best interest hope the board can put a stop to his no brain ideas also he don't meet the time criteria for captain except the gave him time served from his previous time at the crew which they can't seem to locate almost like Obama birth certificate lol any way I think he could have some good ideas if he would listen to certain people and leave his personal affairs out

Sounds like the only option left is to call a special session for a vote of no-confidence. However, keep in mind that if the majority votes to retain his position, you must be acceptable to his authority or resign your participation of BLSC. (Most by-laws require 33% of eligible members to request such session to take place. If this number can not be located within the department, then it would be apparent that the others do not share your opinion)

FEDUP: Why don't you just quit???? It sounds like you are the kind of person that would be disgruntled no matter who is in charge. There are plenty other places that you could go to try and find something that pleases you. Don't bring down the other Crew members with your personal negativity. The new Captain hasn't been in his position very long now, if you decide to stay there how about giving him some support and ideas of what you think needs to be improved and changed.

FEDUP: Could you please explain what these crazy dumb ideas are? The current captain has only been in the position for one month. I have not seen major changes at BLSC that would indicate crazy dumb ideas. If you don't like his ideas instead of being so skeptical why you don't try to work together to make BLSC the best it could be. Do you really believe that his intentions are to destroy BLSC? The crew is doing that to itself because of people there like you that only spread negativity. The crew could be a great organiztion but in the last two years it has turned into a joke. The previous leadership is responible for that. If there are not changes made BLSC will cease to exist. You keep saying that the new captain is making things personal. It sounds to me like you FEDUP is making it personal. Either try to help make changes for the betterment of BLSC or shut up.
