I have not heard that, although it would be nice. Generally they locate in large population areas, such as Orlando, Charlotte, etc. One here would be to close to the one in the Smokies. Hopefully this exit 5 project will make Bristol boom.
Rather not have Bass Pro

I can't see Bass Pro locating so close (1 1/2 hours away) to another store. I'm sorry I would rather go to our local stores in our area (fishin hole i Abindgon). Keep our local people working!

Putting a bass pro in Bristol would be a very bad decision on their part. Thats not the kind of store that needs to have a location ever hour down the interstate. The one in sevierville is huge already.

So of course I live between exit 5 and 7 right next to Lee hwy and I'm the last to hear about an exit 5 project. These businesses I hear about will be right across the street from my house. I'd really like to know what's going on because I can't find anything online! I'd love if someone would update this because I'm across the street from the properties that were just bought for this. Thanks!

Really Curious...here is PART of the article, the last portion would not fit (to many characters). You can find the complete article at http://www2.tricities.com/news/2012/jul/11/br... , but this should be enough to get you started.

BRISTOL, Va.--
Calling Tuesday’s vote historic and significant, city leaders agreed to buy more than 140 acres along Lee Highway with dreams of creating a massive commercial development.

With little fanfare, the Bristol Virginia City Council unanimously agreed to exercise its options and acquire about 30 parcels from 12 property owners along Lee Highway, between the Interstate 81 Exit 5 interchange and the railroad bridge near a Pizza Plus restaurant. Their vision includes a plethora of major “big box” retailers, national chain restaurants and related businesses.

“If things happen like we hope and pray, this will go down in history as the best thing that has ever happened to the city of Bristol,” Mayor Jim Steele said following the meeting.“I think it’s the biggest thing that’s ever happened.”

The proposed retail corridor’s first phase could attract a dozen or more national retailers and restaurants and at least one new hotel. City officials declined to identify potential tenants but said they have at least six letters-of-intent from easily recognized names, and other firms have expressed “substantial interest.” The letters indicate that the businesses will locate at the site if the city buys the property and prepares it for use.

Once fully developed, city officials said, the project is expected to employ more than 2,000 people, generate at least $5 million in annual sales tax revenue and attract at least 1 million visitors a year, both from area residents and travelers on Interstate 81.

City leaders plan to borrow $25 million in bonds to purchase the property.

I've heard that Lowe's could build a new store there to replace the one next to Sam's and also Bass Pro could locate there as well.

Not BassPro, but something similar. Lots of bigger retailers, and I've heard the same thing about Lowe's. If this comes to fruition, which I think it will, it will be a blessing for Bristol, VA. Hopefully Wal-Mart and Sams will be smart and follow Lowe's. I for one am sick of the City providing police and fire first response for both locations and not reaping any of the tax benefits. Then I hope when they four-lane Lee Hwy they screw the county and cut off access to that shopping center from everywhere but Clear Creek Rd.

Oh really? Wal-Mart sells lots of guns and they are two minutes away. And besides, the anchor store up there is going to be a Cabelas. From what I have heard it is a done deal.
