I stopped attending highlands fellowship in abingdon and started attending in bristol to avoid the ugly family rule. Now it has made it's way to bristol. I have really tried to ignore it and focus on the reason our church family is there. But it is impossible I guess. It makes me so angry!!!!! Why would anyone constantly damage God's work with selfish pride!!!!!!! I have finally had enough!!!! While we're at it what happened to our 8 million dollar green campus that was supposed to be built in 2007?????? Where has that money gone????? When I ask I am told in a round about way to "mind my own buisness"!!!!!!!!!!

is the ugly family rule something pertaining to being aesthetically unappealing? the one in abingdon told my friend once they didn't accept her kind in their church because she dress appropriately. which i'm assuming meant not in tight jeans and holister/a&f/aeropostale etc. etc. etc. they're really not that kind to outsiders that look like outsiders.

I haven't seen anything but good from the church!
As for outsiders, that's what they are all about.
The church is seeking those who don't know God so that they can teach them about Him.

For anyone who hasn't attended the church, I ask them to come and check it out for themselves.

It's a church that preaches God's word and seeks to meet peoples needs.

God Bless!

LMAO how funny, because a parent doesn't attend your cult, I mean church, they automatically don't feed their kids. Oh how I love the logic of Christians.

Blah blah blah, rumors, rumors, rumors, the credit check thing has been around for ever and has never once been true. It's insane to think that so many people would go to a church that asked for your credit report or demanded that you look good to attend. Just check it out for yourself or go online and check out a service live. I mean come on folks, the reason so many people go is because it's so awesome and people feel loved and appreciated while learning more about what it means to follow Christ. Haters just keep hating, we aint stopin!!

There are so many homely families in the region, how could anybody make enough clams if such a rule were hypothetically enacted in any church? Seriously!
Really, though, cleanliness is next to Godliness, and nobody in their right mind wants to sit next to a sweat, smelly hillbilly - it's just not good for a church's reputation in the community, and it's not helpful for drawing in new people. As for a credit check, it would be understandable considering the bad check writers around.
Got to run now. My tee time is fast approaching, and my business friends from the club are waiting. Ta Ta!

It's so sad that people get on here to bash "Church" & "Christians". You (Jasper) are judging Christians. I would be scared to do that. We as Christians never said we are perfect, we are just forgiven. We love the Lord and know where we are going when we die. Do you? If not, please seriously think about that. I will be praying you will find peace in your heart.

If Jesus were alive today, where would he preach? Would he preach to those who already claim to know him, or would he take his message to those who need it the most?

I believe that real spiritual enlightenment is one of the most beautiful aspects of life itself! Do not give up on seeking that which your soul thirsts! Forgive those who try and fail as you would want others to forgive you.

I'm sorry but I checked the website of your church...inside and out and yes I saw where even in a volunteer job you have to have good credit. I've heard these rumors for years now but didn't believe them. Now as one said "check it out". Perhaps you should check it out. Perhaps they even check the credit of everyone within the church. Do you tithe by check? They are a business you know. They can call in and pretend to be looking to hire you. They can check your credit easily. I also don't trust a lot of ministers nowadays. It's an easy way to get a job. I know way too many men that hold down regular jobs that don't pay enough so they went into the ministry. You can do it online it's no big deal now. They make a lot of money. The person asking about where all the money went that was collected for some green project? It's ok to inquire why the money wasn't used for what it was taken for. Check it out. Christ doesn't want us to be taken for fools. Christ loves us and wants for all of us to be treated as equals. Doesn't look like everyone is treated equal within that community.

Amen. Best reply on here. God doesn't want anyone bashing anyone. He does, however, want us to be able to understand what is going on in our community and, most importantly, our churches. If someone makes false accusations towards the church, that's one thing. But, if someone simply lays truthful statements out on the table for all to see, then Christ will stand by them.
I would also like to make it clear that having a lot of charities doesn't make you a good Christian church, it makes you a good business. A good Christian church simply stands by Gods Word in all aspects of life. A good Christian church steps out of their comfort zone to witness to anyone who needs to hear it (disregarding race, sex, size, smell, looks, bank accounts, credit, criminal history, etc...) A good Christian church will exalt the poorest ugliest smelliest man there for offering his last $0.10 available rather than the rich man who easily makes very large offering at every service. It isn't about money, and, if you end up not being able to afford a building to preach from, then find and open field and preach from there. God doesn't care about material things. We, as erring humans, tend to forget that quite often. Most importantly though, a good Christian church will not turn anyone away from experiencing a true move of God.

Quit continuing to lie. I guess this is what your're talking about, I just copied and pasted it, "Have a clean credit check record.(NOTE: FOR PAID STAFF POSITIONS ONLY)" Seriously, if anyone has an issue with that your a moron. Not sure why this would not make sense. Do you think it's wrong to get a credit check for a person that's gonna work at a church? I sure would not want someone who is careless with their money working there. Oh an BTW a credit check is completely different than an income statement which is the rumor you are trying to confirm. Just keep trying, truth will trumpt your lies.

Real? Ha! Last I checked, normal paid positions don't run credit checks on their potential employees. Why would a church be any different? And anyway, how is it ANYBODY'S business how careless one is with their own money? Do you have an answer to that? I recommend that before you start throwing stones and calling people morons, you should make sure that your logic makes sense. I do believe that truth will trump lies, but frankly, what you're preaching is a crock of bull. For you to say something such as, "I sure would not want someone who is careless with their money working there," (Providing that you represent said "church") confirms everyone's suspicions that all they care about is money. It's pathetic, really. If you were really all about God at the church, the money wouldn't be the number one priority, which you continue to deny is the case. So to borrow your own words,'Quit continuing to lie!'
