It seems my post was removed, probably at the behest of TW
From a sample size of about 20 or so people of whom I have engaged in conversation at Bristol's Touchstone Wireless plant, at least a dozen or more harbor feelings of indignation, frustration and fear, brought about or relating to they way they are treated by their employer.
Touchstone Wireless' policies towards their staff are such that even conscientious hard-working employees are always mindful of inadvertently committing infractions, whether that be by returning one or two minutes late from break (for fear of dismissal in some cases) or not complying with the eternal work-in-progress that is the ever growing and changing rules and regulations.

Is it any wonder? I can count 15 people of whom I was acquainted and spoke with terminated in the last six months.

For non-scheduled or unauthorised absenteeism from work of one day (or up to seven with a Doctor's sick note) through illness, employees are given one point, counting towards a maximum tally. Half a point is expunged from their record for each fortnight of perfect attendance.
If the employee's points total reaches five twice in one 12 month period any subsequent lateness or absence will result in immediate dismissal.

Overtime is mandatory and will most often only be announced five or ten minutes before the end of the day's shift. If employees have pressing matters to attend to and leave at their scheduled time, they will incur a point.

Whistling, singing, humming or chatting however brief is forbidden. Employees are moved away from their work buddies to new areas at the supervisor's discretion.

I was ever so slightly encouraged but not surprised by the lack of endorsement for the points system by one of the middle managers responsible for actually implementing this most draconian and unimaginative regulation.

There's alot of talk on the floor at TW about a union as employees are being pushed to work long unwanted hours with no raise or compenstation, high unaffordable insurance, and just being treated like dogs. "We are ready for change!" says lots of unhappy employees.

How much do you want to bet that some of us end up working Saturday? No matter how many numbers that are met, It will never be enough. Although maybe if we push hard enough we could get hemroids.

wondering whats going on in the TW world? I think there's something going on we dont know about... Some ppl on second shift got laid off until monday. they said because the parts AND the phones didn't come in., and that the techs have no phones to work on. Something just doesn't sound right.. anyone agree?

It's not a layoff unless it's more than 3 days, Rookie and if you are wondering what's going on, we are waiting on parts and some cores to come in. Things really are not that strange it happens alot, get used to it.

Wed, Thurs, Friday .... that equals three days :)plus the saturday they were originally told they would be working .I was told that parts and phones didnt come in .. Parts, Ive heard that happens alot, but the phones not arriving after having so many sent back is what got me concerned . But thanks for the advice there

Well since you know it all why are you asking? This is the most unorganized business you will ever work at, if I were you I wouldn't plan on retiring or even getting on full time so don't get too concerned. With time you will see my words are true.

Yes, I have found out pretty quickly that it is a very unorganized company..I definitley do not plan on retiring from there, but wether I am hired in or not- I work there full time, so job security is of course a concern of mine - I wouldn't be working there if I didn't have to have a job. Besides, you are a "veteran", so Im sure that means you have been hired in - or possibly started there before it hired through the temp agency- which means I'm sure I'll have the opportunity, if it doesn't go under before my turn comes :)

I know about TW and a lot about Unions. Yes a Union is needed how ever it will take a long time and TW will fight it with every thing. Even telling people how a Union would hurt the jobs people have. If you want a Union, you must find a Union office and talk to them. They will get things going for you. Do not tell any one what you did. You will end up with out a job. If a TW becomes Union, TW can shut down and move and every one will be with out a job. it has happen.

TW management has a new name they're called holiday crashers because every holiday they F*** You. I can't wait to be in line with all the management at the unemployment office when T-Mobile drops us so I can tell them what I think of them. They better go ahead and check all this work a 3rd time after bringing everyone in on 10 hrs, by the end of tomorrow everyone will be tired and not care.

You're so right, Sinking. It's obvious management doesnt know what the hell they are doing- and they act like it's all our fault. Hell, if they were even half as organized about stuff as they should be, maybe we wouldnt be about to lose T-Mobile. It's so stupid.. Over in qc they start us on a project, then come take the phones away because oops- they weren't ready to be qc'd- and oops somehow they got handed out and some got in the cage. And frankly, the majority of the 120,000 in the cage that we have to check AGAIN - weren't our fault- it was stuff they approved to be sent out.(and obviously they werent on the same page as t mobile to begin with , which makes no sense - who doesnt know what criteria someone wants met when they are looking to sign a contract with them?) Not to mention they have at least one "validator" that doesnt know what the heck they are talking about- and the people too busy following management around with their noses up their a** instead of working, and letting people who just scan and pass keep their jobs? And yet, they tell us if we send out 1 bad phone the place is shut down. Then dammit, get rid of the ones that you KNOW arent doing their job, and put forth some orginazational skills that a manager is supposed to posess.

You must have worked here for awhile it really seems like your hitting the nail on the head. Most everyone that has a position of power in this facility no matter how small or large seems to be worthless. They would rather kiss ass than step on each others toes and believe me there are some that have needed to be gone for along time.
