I'm not taking sides here but twice recently Sullivan Co deputies have killed a person, fleeing in a car, who allegedly attempted to run over the officer, while the officer was trying to stop them from fleeing.

It just makes me wonder if the officers are getting in front of the car or behind the car if in reverse, in an actual attempt to stop them from driving away.

If this is the case, I can't see how the killings are justified. An officer can shoot if they are in fear of their life but maybe they shouldn't be so close to the fleeing car. I mean, common sense would tell you to get the hell out of the way. If the car is attempting to flee, then get in your cruiser and chase them, don't step in front of the car thinking that the driver will not run over you.

Just a thought

The police have the right to stand their ground and not retreat; The uniform and badge are symbols that represent our justice system, and to the lawful citizen speak for themselves. The man had a decision to make and he made the wrong one. Anything prior to him pushing on that gas paddle is not relevant. He had warrants and was wanted. The deceased had a long criminal history his whole adult life and was trying to escape, and in the process put the officers and public at risk! Simple case of cause and effect! Justice was served! Should it have happened? No, but it did because he pushed the gas paddle. May he rest in peace and praying for the families involved.

I hear you. I don't judge the dead man yet. A fleeing man is hardly reason for deadly force. It's gonna be looked into and heads are gonna roll. He could have been anybody. The sheriffs getting a little out of control. Most of these dipshits in office around here get the big head from Ron (what a dipshit) Ramsey to the sheriff who threw 13 canisters into a trailer. And blew it up.

People have families. One of mine was harmed several several years ago and was totally innocent by the woman judge in this town, justice isn't on a bench. Justice is in the air. Cops need to know that if you kill some people's family members? They might kill yours.

We will see the film. And I will put it on utube. That's a promise it's public property.

The police have a right to stand their ground. But do they have the common sense to not get in front of a moving car? I have the right to lay my hand on a red-hot stove burner, or jump off a cliff, or drive into the path of a speeding train, but I have the common sense to not do any of the above.
Shoot the tires out, shoot the radiator, there was other options. I'm just saying there is a pattern developing of citizens being killed all because a cop jumps in front of a moving car

Exactly the chain of thought that has this country in this pathetic shape. No one wants to except responsibility, Monday morning quarterbacking, place the blame somewhere else. I bet this guy had every intention of turning himself in also. He just needed one more Meth hit, and didn't want to leave with the police when he was warned to stop. Point being its a tough job!! These situations are never planned and never end the way you planned. I am sure the Officer's would do things different and absolutely sure this bad guy would. Guess what! It want happen, because he disobeyed a sworn officer. An officer that has every right stand where ever he wishes to make an arrest. Did I mention everything is void prior to this dude stepping on the gas paddle. Just glad no one was hurt while he drove to Virginia side all shot up and probably intoxicated.

Unlike you, I hope it never happens to anyone again. As for my family, no one is cooking meth or has a long line of past offenses to be on the run from. That was our choice, hope your family does as well.

"Working Fine" if this was family member then I have already showed my respects to the family. My comments are not meant to be personal but explain my views and beliefs. Life is suppose to be simple! Do good things and good things happen. Do bad things and bad things happen. Simple.

YOu assumed guilt (that makes you a Ron Ramsey head) that's not American. The presumption is in convent until proven guilty. You're a communist. You support Ron Ramsey , the single biggest drug pusher in the state. He allowed the pharmaceutical companies (campaign contributors ) to peddle their drugs in your back yard and you did nothing, on the contrary, you ignored your duty as a citizens and didn't even make yourself aware. It's your duty. Not your pass time. Now, those hooked on opiates can easily get off with a substance known as suboxone. Are you even aware of suboxone or are you going to wait until you come home with your family one night and hear The PING. Of an aluminum bat hitting you between the eyes as an opiate addicted person can't get 25 cents worth of the substance because R amsey wants him to stay on the opiates?
No, you're too busy making a living. Your state rep is a worthless worm. You seem like a good person.

Evil is allowed when good people do nothing to STOP THE RON RAMSEYS OF THE WORLD.

Tennessee is the number one addicted state. Suboxone is only ONE subject. He has screwed you in a million ways. By the way, the guy that hit you with aluminum bat was a graduate from the University of Virginia with an electrical engineering degree. He had a motorcycle accident 5 years ago and for addicted to pain pills.(Something similar happened in Charlottesville). So these aren't common thugs that are on Ron Ramsey's OPiate machine. It's everybody.

Who knows, the guy making meth could have been doing it to get money to get Ramsey's opiates. But Ramsey wins either way. If they hadn't shot the guy, he'd so to prison. Ramsey wins there too. How? You don't know how? That's because you haven't done your duty. Ramsey sleeps with some boys in Nashville that want to privatize the prison system (CCA)...the more engineers that have motorcycle wrecks, the more money ends up in Ron Ramsey's coffer.

You better wake up. Your children's freedoms are at risk. There is a godless demagogue on the loose and you're just going to soccer practice with the kids. We are at war. This ain't no dress rehearsal. This is America and Ron Ramsey is the enemy of democracy.

Have a nice day.

I mean, come on guys, it's gas pedal. Just saying.... Regardless, one would think the car wasn't moving when the po-po stepped in front and told him to get out of the car. I would hazard to guess they did that at gunpoint given the criminal history of the deceased. So, when the deceased chose to step on the gas pedal..... I'll give the officers the benefit of the doubt at this point.

You see this stuff on 'Cops', it ain't hard to figure out.

I understand what you are saying, Common Sense, but wouldn't COMMON SENSE tell you to NOT get in front of a car that has the potential to run over your ass! Like I said in the first post, why not approach from the side of the car and shoot the tires out? I know cops think they are the shit but do they think they are Superman and can stop a moving car? I can't think of any other reason why they would step in front of one. When I walk through a parking lot and realize a car is running, I either stop until it moves or I walk an extra hundred paces out of the way TO PREVENT BEING RUN OVER and I'm not even dealing with criminals.
