It is this country's sacred and unavoidable duty to take care of those who can't take care of themselves and to protect its population. The petition below will help us to do just that. Please sign it and share it with everyone on your email list and facebook, twitter, etc...
I have been racking my brain, advocating in every way I could think of, for the past 12 years, and praying that we would find a way to wake up this country to the plight of our mentally ill who don't know they are sick. I have seen them in our streets, heard about them in our prisons where they don't belong, read about them being murdered in the streets and, yes, about them murdering others, and watched as my own son has suffered unimaginable pain, tormented by horrible demons for 12 long years.
I am saddened that it took something like the horrible tragedy that occurred at Sandy Hook to get people to actually do something about it. At the same time, I am finally truly encouraged that the powers that be in this country may actually be waking up! I am hearing people talk, and maybe even waking up to what has been a mental health crisis of epidemic proportions in this country for many, many years.
WE PETITION THE OBAMA ADMINISTRATION TO:
Help families address some critical failures of government assistance services.
Families desperately need assistance for early intervention, proper & timely treatment compliance, & sustained support for themselves & their loved ones who suffer from severe neurological brain disorders with anosognosia. The link below gives an example of how life-threatening gaps in services that can be closed.
1: Implement, fully fund & enforce a National Assisted Outpatient Treatment Guideline, creating strict neuropsychiatic criteria for those who qualify & to ensure compliance with prescribed treatment. http:/mentalillnesspolicyorg.b logspot.com/2012/03/samhsa-vot e-assisted-outpatient.html
2: Increase number of psychiatric beds.
3: Assist families in the management of unwanted & criminal behavior in order to keep them off the streets & out of the correctional system.
