Felon Arrested On Gun Counts

Michael Tacinelli Sr., a local firefighter and twice-convicted felon who is prohibited from having firearms, was arrested Monday on charges of possessing 15 guns.

Yeah so the guy made some mistakes - while there are certain people who shouldn't have guns, laws like this don't really do nothing but lag up the system and put people in jail who didn't do anything but violate an unconstitutional law.

If a felon really wants a gun, he can get one. Either on the street, from a friend or somebody in his family.

This country was built on guns, war and bloodshed.

Here is a case of what looks like police harrasment. was there someone in the home that could legaly own the guns? Could the machines be for a use not related to fire arms? Were they locked in a safe? were they older guns, and not the arsenal it sounds like? I think there are two sides to this story, the Police and truth, This guy was 20 yr fighter fighter, I dont belive anyone was at harm,

This guy is lucky the Feds don't hit him up for Being a Felon in Possession of Firearms.........it amazes me that they permit this guy to be a firefighter.....don't they do records checks? Police harrassment??? I seriously doubt that. You're right he can get guns off the street if he so chooses HOWEVER think back to that Newington police officer that was killed by a felon in possession of firearms........never say never!!

C'mon guys, I'm not for restrictive gun control but this guy simply should not have had the guns. Also, it's not like he was caught with one gun that was to protect his family.

You guys shouldn't be against gun control every single time. Sometimes, just sometimes, it actually makes sense.
If I were him, I wouldn't have had any guns out of fear of being busted. Therefore, gun control does work sometimes.

Ok, the guy was felon, But read into the reports, was he really in possession. sounds like they found them all in a locked safe.Doesent say if he had acesses to them. sounds like maybe there was someone else here. legal to own. Lots of ammo, well target shooters know that answer. and his son. I think thats just a low blow. I thought i read in the paper the kid was arrestted for having a beer in his car. As far as him being a firefighter, i whould think there was a backround check, just shows maybe there was more to the story

Lets not forget the Newington cop that killed his girlfreind. Also i think if if was such a concrete charge, the Feds would of been involed, sounds like small town politics.

If I understand you correctly, you're saying because it's against the law for felons to have firearms, you wouldn't own one if you were a felon? That means some gun control laws work? The reason you wouldn't have any firearms is because you are law abiding, hence it is unlikely you would become a criminal. The whole reason people are criminals is because they DON'T OBEY THE LAW. Talk about a specious argument.

Having said that, I agree that criminals convicted of violent crimes should never again have the right to own firearms. I wouldn't be opposed to a process whereby non-violent criminals could apply for reinstatement of rights after a minimum number of years (5 or 10?) showing no further arrests. It's possible to make youthful mistakes & learn from them. Being twice convicted over 14 years doesn't necessarily make the guy in the article a good candidate though.

Where does it say felons can't own guns?

Joe, since I do work on a lot of Federal criminal cases, I can tell you that often times the Feds do get involved AFTER a defendant has already been arrested on state criminal charges.

Under the law, obviously you're not a felon who tried to purchase a gun are you? They do a criminal history check BEFORE the gun leaves the store. And it also states in U. S. Code section 922g........look it up

No, your argument is the specious one. The deterent(jail time)would scare me, therefore I wouldn't dare do what dumbass Tacinelli Sr. did, therefore I'd be a felon who doesn't have guns(and shouldn't). Thats working gun control.
Just because sometimes we have a dumbass who breaks the law, doesn't mean we should do away with the law. The threat of jail will deter many. It also doesn't mean that only the criminals would have the guns- I am in favor of law abiding people being allowed to own guns.
Gun control that takes guns away from law abiders, leaving guns in the hands of law breakers, that's what liberals want, not me. I never said otherwise.
We gotta have some sort of gun control, or otherwise a violent schizophrenic felon could have .50 cal automatic weapons. I'm for sensible gun control, against idiot liberal gun control.

I think we're misunderstanding each other PP. We both agree that only the law abiding are disarmed by gun control laws. I'm not opposed to laws forbidding firearms to felons.(My suggestion for non-violent felons listed above notwithstanding.)

Unfortunately, these laws only work for those willing to obey, people like yourself & those released felons who decide to stay on the straight & narrow.

Yes, the laws only work for the law-abiding. The difference is that I don't see only criminals as having the guns.
You can still own a gun as long as you don't commit armed robberies or you aren't certifiably crazy.
In some areas, like washington d.c., only criminals have guns. That kind of gun control I could not be more against.

in my case the gun control law has completly made me a victom of the system, hopefully somebody will see this and can help me out. I caught a felony 4 and a half yeard ago, (drug conviction) I went away did my little time, while i was in prison i decided that when i get out im going to find a girl and settle down. when i got out that is what i did, i meet this sweet little chick dated for a little while then got hitched. we moved away to a differnt city to start a new life. The thing is back in 1997 she received a .22 long rifle for a cristmas gift from her dad. well I never gave it much thought that it was wrong of me to allow her to bring it along when we moved to dallas. so here we are, been married fo 3 years living a very nice law bidding life and the cops come kicking down the my door while i was out of town. finds my wifes .22 that she got in 97, but because i live here and im a felon I get charged with another felony ( felon in possion of a gun) and now I have to give up my freedom and go back to prison because i married a girl with a gun. now wher is the justice in that

it just goes to prove how the system can get felon level clients buy praying on the ignorince of the public. most felons are felons because ther mentalty is one that does not always dot all the i's, and cross all the t's. And alot of times this gets them into trouble, because we live in a very orgenized country. but being ignorant to a rule I new nothing about while harming not a soul, should not constitute me going back to prison, infact i would think it crule and a bit unusual of my government that i pay taxes to, to completly ruin the life i've made for my wife.

well we will see what happends, I mean i do have a lawyer, and since the blindfolded lady holding the justice scale will always lean a little more toward the side with the money weighting it down, I might have some kind of chance. The bank might furclose on my house, but hey i will be able to buy justice.
