City lawmakers are scheduled to vote Tuesday on an ordinance that would prohibit nudity in most public places, a blanket ban that represents an escalation of a two-year tiff between a devoted group of men who strut their stuff through the city's famously gay Castro District and the supervisor who represents the area.

Interesting, because there is no federal law aganinst public nudity, and BECAUSE OF THAT, people do, and have the right to, be nude in federal parks, federal beaches, and many other federal places.

And the State Of New York,(and other places in the U.S.) allows women to be bare-breasted in public.

"Exemptions would be made for participants at permitted street fairs and parades, such as the city’s annual gay pride event and the Folsom Street Fair, which celebrates sadomasochism and other sexual subcultures."

Good grief!! And gays want to be accepted as normal. There's nothing normal about parading around in the nude.

Certainly not! Just consider all the rest of the animals in nature, looking so dapper in their three-piece suits.

That aside, why is it that those who avail themselves of such freedoms are so frequently the ones everyone wish would not do so.

I mean, we do have local rules against "maintaining a public eyesore" !

I feel sorry for those of you that have bodies that destroy the beauty of human nudity.

You act like the human body is something to be ashamed of makes us wonder if its because of that very tiny body part you're hiding. I'd guess that the answer.

Though I enjoy nudity myself what has happened particularly in the Castro is just ugly. Walking around exposing yourself and all your body piercings etc. is just not a pretty sight. Most people do not want to be shocked with some nude guy or girl (but mostly men) exposing everything on their way to work or a day out in town. And these men need to grow up and realize that everything is not about them. Their is a word for that and it is called narcissism. I hope the city passes it but does leave exceptions like parades and special events like Folsom etc.

On the contrary, there's nothing "normal" about being ashamed of your own body or anybody elses; it's definitely morbid and nothing in nature bears you out; granted, it's difficult for the unsightly.

All the rest of the animals? Calling yourself an animal? OK, whatever. Animals have fur. If men and their what are supposed to be privates were even half as beautiful as gay men apparently think they are, then it might makes sense, but (news flash) it just isn't so.

Nobody wants to see your part no matter what its size, unless it is another gay man, and he wants to see it for his own purposes, nothing to do with you. Unbelievable how you gays allow yourselves to be used like you do.

This is nothing to do with being ashamed of the body. This is about forcing yourself into someone else's consciousness in an intimate way whether they want it or not. Why is it that everybody seems to understand this except for GAY MEN?

You're right about the narcissism; but there's a hell of a lot more unhealthy prudery, which does vastly more harm.

Yeah, right. It might even limit you to one sexual partner in your lifetime and you might even be married to them. How horribly unhealthy! How could anyone even survive without all those STDs?

You jump to unwarranted conclusions. Not all gay men are in favor of such wanton public nudity. The city supervisor who represents the Castro district and who proposed the legislation against public nudity happens to be a gay man too.

It is not just the appearance that some folks object to, but also inconsiderate behavior. For example, no-one wants to go sit on a public bench after a naked man has been lounging there for the past hour. What initially led to this proposed legislation were numerous requests that nudists should at least bring their own towels to sit on.

Where did you get the idea that most gay men walk around nude in public, or even want to?

I've never met ANY who do.

Yet you will pick up a dog or cat and pet it, knowing it just buried its latest dump and washed itself with its tongue.

Why do you regard the human body as filthy? That's the REAL mystery.

Sex. It's an erogenous zone.
