That is not true, you can go to the Wally World in Forrest City, Mad Butcher in Clarendon, or Stuttgart has two or three food stores. Kroger may be the only game in town but their is plenty out side of town and the tax is less ,too.

I remember when there was a Mad Butcher on Main street ..up there going toward Clarendon. Last time I lived there I used to go to Save A Lot, and there used to be some other grocery store mid town... can't remember the name of it. It was a good place to buy chicken. Jeffries grocery on East Cedar st... Miss Jeffries and that other lady that worked there for so long.
Yeah, Kroger is high.
Wow, Brinkley town is changing. I read Walmart left. There used to be Walmart, Kroger, Kentucky Fried Chicken, DePriest BBQ (I think it was DePriest) hmm, and was there a drug store?..in the complex there.
Kind of like last time I moved there and I had to go see a Dr. Pham because My doctor (Dr. David) was no longer around and the other doctors who used to be set up there (like Dr. Williams).

You guys need a Winco.

Well gas is to high to go out of town and some of the older people dont drive out of town. So we still need another store. And the employees out there have bad attitude. If there was another store at least they know people could go somewhere else

Does anyone remember the name of that other grocery store uptown? It was open in the 70's.

Marchell's Thriftway, next to Lows Drug Store, and Lainey's( or something like that) next to Railroad Track's, Malham's Gro. and Satterfield's. Then you had Gray Gro., Hall Gro.,Foster Gro. Holmes Gro.

hmm, Malham's Grocery may have been what I was trying to think of if I don't have it mixed up with a building supply.

Any relationship to the Mal as in MalMar Hotel?

I've gone to the restaurant there, heard the new owner was going to restore it to it's former glory.(Long time ago now).

It used to to imagine what it was like in the beginning, back when horses and carriages were primary transportation, the excitement of the train coming in and the fancy Hotel.

Having a vision of that guy Wayne on his bicycle near the post office with that mod-squad scarf tied around his neck. I ran into him years later and said "I remember you. You used to wear that scarf around your neck back in the 70's" which embarrassed him to hear mentioned.

...And I think it was Wayne Yarborough and a red neck scarf.

And MalMar was not too far from the Post Office.

edit:

"I used to to imagine what..." (it was like when the MalMar Hotel was new and the train brought and took people).

I think it was a man named Mal who met and married a woman by the name of Marie hence the name MalMar.

Guess I'm straying off topic which is grocery stores and the need of new ones in Brinkley.

You are on track. Yes Malham Grocery was at the same place that Malham Building Supply was, the store had the same owner but was changed from grocery to hardware. Arnold and Charley owned the Hardware. Their Uncle and his boys owned the first Malham Hotel. It was located at the corner of New Orleans and Cedar St. (Now Ag Discount). The boys were Isaac, Zoom, and Mike. Isaac bought the Rusher Hotel and named it Mal mar. Zoom had a little diner next to Deen's Lumber, and Mike was a Football Coach at Cabot, and ASU.All the Malham's are gone now but they were fine people. The old Rusher/ Malham Hotel is now Lows Bridal Shop and yes the Lows have done a lot to it. My dad road a train from California to Brinkley in 1946 after the war, thing were jumping then.

Wow. I was racking my brains this last week thinking about the crowd with the monster trucks and wondering the name of the place where they used to gather. I recognized the name on your list.

It was Zooms.

Great info. Gosh I wish my dad was still alive to ask questions to. I'd totally be asking him how he got back to Brinkley from the war.

Thinking again it might have been Wayne but not Wayne Yarborough. I think Wayne Yarborough was a different Wayne.

Yes it was Wayne but I do not remember his last name eather. He worked for the Lowes and had a brother that stayed in jail all the time.Have not seen him in years, but it was not Wayne Yarborough. Not many of the old people around Brinkley anymore. It is all quite ,downtown hardly any one their anymore

kroger - king soopers suck at youngsfield and 32nd ave in colorado. I can never get all the things i want to buy for the week. hell i couldn't even get a can of coffee this week. If they would get rid of all the crap that doesn't pertain to food, like the dam flowers, auto, toys, and the rest of that kind of bull shit. then they could carry food items and be a real grocery store!!!!

Some of their employees r just plain rude! And could care less about u shopping at their store! And they hire all these young kids who d not know how to bag groceries! Who wants their bread at the bottom of their bag with cans on top??? I'd rather do it myself. They need a self checkout!!! And some employees who care!
