This is the guy that did NOTHING for veterans during his six years as a Congressman. Here is what Pearce said about appropriations for veteran mental healthcare: "It's very difficult to get fraud and abuse out of entitlement programs… People sometimes don't exist in the first place or they are passed away and someone is still drawing funds. I am very suspicious of entitlement action." His remarks are so hypocritical! Veterans beware of this guy. He will say anything to be reelected.

Steve Pearce supported one (1) out of seventeen (17) house bills on veterean's issues. He didn't seem to remember veterans when he was voting against their (our) healthcare. His memory of veterans appeared to be absent when he was denying young troops returning from Ieaq and Afghanistan an up-to-date GI Bill. (Of couse Pearce's record on education in general has been atrocious.) It is abundantly clear that Steve Pearce only remembers veterans when he needs their votes or campaign pledges. I for one will be supporting Teague or anyone else who happens to oppose Pearce. It is my goal that he does not go to congress again, ever.

Pearce may be a vet himself, but he did not support us the last time he was in congress.

Steve Pearce is a first-rate grifter, that's for sure. While in Congress, he didn't nothing but rubber-stamp Bush policies, which included turning his back on active-duty soldiers in the war zones and on veterans.

Former Congressman Steve Pearce touts he is veteran. In Congress he had a miserable record with regards to our veterans. Our veterans and their medical care should have been an important priority. However, the wealthy Pearce could care less for our our military men and women.

Here is a guy who posed by a fighter jet in his campaign when he flew cargo planes, which is just as honorable, but a bit misleading. He is a fellow vet, but he did nothing for us as a congressman. You may not like Harry Teague, but he is fighting for veterans every day. As Nancy Reagan said, "Just say, NO!" to Steve Pearce.

I want to thank the previous commentators for reminding us of the difference between those who honor veterans and those like Steve Pearce who dishonor them by turning them into political vote-getting fodder. His Congressional votes speak louder than his campaign words. While I am at it, I want to mention three of my buddies killed on dangerous air missions in Vietnam: Thaddeus Williams, Jr., John Nash, and Jim Gates. I never forget. RIP.

Steve Pearce NEVER served the 2nd Congressional District. Steve Pearce is the Congressional Representative for big gas and oil. Steve Pearce represent the WORST that America has to offer because Pearce never gives, he only takes.

Mike, coming from you I consider that a ringing endorsement of Steve Pearce and combination of Harry Teague. It makes me want to run out and write Steve a big check.

You are so hypocritical; after accusing Mr. Pearce of using veterans as political fodder you evoke the names of Viet Nam war KIAs for the purpose of establishing credibility.

And you nor the rest of the want-a-be’s of this forum tonight wouldn’t know worthwhile veterans legislation if it bit you in the gluteus maximus.

Pearce was damn near totally worthless in his support of the vets. Of course that is a characteristic of the Repugs. Redneck Okie Senator Colburn has a hold on the Veterans Bill. The SOB had no problem voting for the illegal and immoral TRILLION $$ war.

Because the RepubliCONs are the party of 'NO' they are the party of death.

Democratic Senators are calling on Sen. Tom Coburn (R-Okla.) to lift his hold on a veterans’ health bill that Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) hopes to clear before the chamber adjourns this week for a three-day recess.

Sens. Daniel Akaka (D-Hawaii), Jon Tester (D-Mont.) and Mark Begich (D-Alaska) will hold a press conference Monday to rally support for the measure.[...]

In a floor statement Friday, Begich called on Coburn to lift his hold. Other Democratic Senators made similar appeals, but Begich took the rare step of naming Coburn on the Senate floor.

“I am disappointed that my Senate colleague does not feel this same sense of duty and responsibility to our nation’s heroes, who have sacrificed so much for our very right to stand in this body and debate this matter,” Begich said.“There is no good reason or rationale for a hold to be placed on this legislation and I call on my colleague to remove his hold.”

Doc, that is one impressive and substantive post. It's mighty swell of a SWELL to provide models of creative writing complete with acronyms.

I am a Vietnam veteran, which means I fought in Vietnam. As a self-identified "Las Crucen Veteran," you must have fought in Las Cruces. What were you fighting? Bedbugs? Hair lice? Crabs? Got news for you: they won.

Mike - You are really showing your colors. I did 20+ years in military service to our country. You probably did 2 years of KP at a stateside post before being discharged as unfit. You are one big fake and sane and rational person in Las Cruces knows it.

Anyway, you name the place and the time to come make me FO you MFer.

That's really funny coming from a bozo that publically wrote that he prefers the Taliban. Gee, aren't the Taliban killing our troops in Afghanistan? What a friend to veterans you are; with friends like you, who needs enemies? Do you also support President Obama's Afghanistan war strategy of procrastination while waiting for public opinion to turn against Operation Enduring Freedom? I guess for people like you losing a couple hundred more soldiers is justified if in the end the American people give the President his graceful "out".

And what else did you write? Oh yeah, "...I am also quite sure that I do not prefer them to no-account Cuban cigar-smokers."

The bozo is you, who tries to score points by misrepresenting my views. I wrote--and thanks for reading my blog--"Now I do not think highly of the Taliban for a lot of reasons. But I have to say that bad as that party of politico-religio fanatics is, the US abides many worse parties without waging war on them. I am quite sure that I prefer the Taliban to Iranian mullahs, North Korean dictators, Myramar generals, and assorted sub-Saharan despots. But I am also quite sure that I do not prefer them to no-account Cuban cigar-smokers." For everyone else, preferring the less of many evils is hardly siding with them, as my first quoted sentence makes clear.

Bed bugs, hair lice, and crabs still bothering you after 20+ years in the brig. I thought that the services deloused even those dishonorably discharged. Take care, good buddy.

Pen Pal, rumor has it that you're the columnist Dr. Michael Hays. If so, do you conduct yourself in such juvenile behavior in daily life outside of Topix? Or is it just something you reserve for Topix? How old are you? If you're going to say that others started it first, SAVE IT. Grow up. Better yet act like an adult and stop shaming that doctorate you hold, please!!!

Doc Hays' posts are always substantive, free of personal bias and hypocrisy, and factual. He has intimidating credentials, knows everything about everything, and likes to diddle people. A typical English major you might say.

Daily Horoscope for December 9

Leo

You're really on the ball today so there's no danger of anyone tricking you or fobbing you off with lame excuses. If you suspect that a loved one is hiding something from you, you'll want to question them in a lot of detail. That's all very well but try not to turn it into the third degree, nor to make them feel hounded or bullied by your desire to know what's going on.
