All of what you said may very well be true.

But even if it is true, the Republican candidate for County Commisioner is absolutely on point.

So the flag can't be up due to the tedious maintenance? If that is not an overview of the US as a whole today, what is? I guess some people forgot what it means, and say its too much trouble to keep this nation what it was.

As a veteran, I'm disgusted. Ive seen our flag fly in places much more prone to damage than a library. Show some pride, who knows how much longer we will have it at this rate.

Mayor Erik Hansen and the Good People of Thornton, Colorado:

Honor our colors.

Surely if one were to stand on the front porch of the Thornton Library and look in any direction there would be a building with a Veteran in it that would be honored to appear twice-a-day and spend 12 proud minutes raising our symbol of faith-unity-strength.

Think outside the box people, Mr Mayor - that's what they are paying you for.

respectfully,

This is scandalous! How could this be? Illegals can wave their flags but the flag of the USA can't be displayed, especially during one of the most historically and traditionally significant time of the year.

I'm positive that the illegals had something to do with this...

Erik Hansen is running for office. However, Erik Hansen did NOT make the original complaint. It was in fact an Adams County citizen that discovered the problem and was blown off by the library. That is when the issue became bigger as the citizen sought to remedy the problem.

Hansen may be making it an issue but SO AM I - An Adams County / Thornton resident and a United States veteran. The library has received hundreds of emails and calls from CITIZENS and VETERANS similarly outraged.

All the library had to do was say “we’ll fix it” and done so and it would have been over. Instead, they chose to get all defensive and now it is a fight – one which they will lose and come away with mud on their face for it.

You are correct that the Adams County Commisioners do not have any say in the day to day library decisions. However, they do personally appoint the five-person board that oversees the library system and as such are directly responsible for the actions taken by the library and the board.

A friend of mine lives in Thornton and last week asked a library employee why there was no flag and was told "We are an all inclusive community and don't want to offend anyone" She was irate and then wrote a letter to the library. This news article give a much different reason for no flag then the library employee gave.

Just how much work is it to run a flag up a pole! If it's to much?Maybe those people shouldn't be there!Don't want to over work someone!

The Library is about learning.

Why not teach respect for our country as well as book learning. We are loosing respect for the flag, for our country, where has the patriotism gone? If the city government has no patriotism why should anyone else? it's up to the city to set an example for the people and for future generations.

Why do they need a maintenance team to hoist and lower a flag? I'm sure several on staff can be trained to do this.

In Thornton it might be more appropriate to fly a Mexican flag.

From what I see the flags that go up, don't come down until they are shreaded rags. You want the flag so much, care for it. Raise it in the morning and lower it at dusk, if it is a 24 hour flag light it with the intensity it deserves...or just treat it like a rag, what the hell?

Leave it to an O'Bama supporter to not want to respect the flag.
Can't say I'm surprised. They hate our country.
stop look and listen, read what 'pay attention'has to say. Also, take a good look at your self. When was the last time you did something good, for the neighbors, family or friends? Quit killing yourself with all this hate. Use yourself as an example, and reach out and be nice. Let others see you do this. It's ok to be nice. Now smile. That's what a true American is. It's people like you that spoil the whole barrel.

I have seen enough whether this is free political campaigning or not, there is no reason that any building in this country should not have an American Flag flying high and proud in our country - whether it is a governmental building or not. Why has so many lost respect for our beloved country? Why do we elect people into office that refuse to say the Pledge of Alliegence? Our country is full disrespectful beings that need to go back to where they came from if our Flag or beliefs or love for our country offends them!! Disgraced by own government....

I actually live in Adams County and use the library, and I find it humorous that so many outsiders who will never set foot in there weigh in. I agree that the flag should be flown in front of public buildings, but I do buy the maintenance argument. This is a natural extension of Republican's fiscal plan to destroy all government. Money is tight. If you actually used the library system in Adams County, you would realize that they barely use employees at all. Everything is self-service and there is usually one or two people to ask questions. Frankly, I do buy their argument about resources because I've seen it in action.

What’s wrong with a friendly gathering of flag waving Americans in front of the building on Friday afternoon? Get enough people in front of the building and media coverage and I believe they will find the money to get a new flag.
