Time to Shut Down ACPD; do like Camden & establish a County-Wide PD w/Sheriff.
Too bad that a few rotten apples spoil the barrel, but this is getting worse.

I agree! So do others who work and visit AC. Mayor/Some Council vs ACPD has not helped at all either, but the bad apples need to be ID'ed and prosecuted or let-go.

A former Camden City police officer who admitted his role in a corrupt antidrug unit and cooperated with federal authorities was sentenced today to 46 months in prison.

hmmmmmm, this sounds familiar;
Police Commissioner Charles H. Ramsey said Friday that theft allegations involving Officer Gerold Gibson - son-in-law of Gov. Corbett - were first brought to his attention in late fall by Gibson's commanding officer in the Narcotics Field Unit.

Several of Gibson's fellow officers had voiced suspicions that Gibson, 43, was stealing clothing, sneakers, and jewelry from the homes of suspected drug dealers during raids and warrant executions, Ramsey and police sources said.

"Obviously, we had to look into it," Ramsey said.

Within days, Ramsey and other high-ranking police officials, including Deputy Commissioner Richard Ross, Internal Affairs supervisors, and two narcotics commanders met with FBI investigators to discuss the case.
----------

Notice that Ramsey said "had"
Instead of "We looked into it immediately"
and not days later or maybe years later or Never.

I feel that it is not so much as a police issue, but a leadership issue. "DO AC" has been run, over the years, by politicos whose main concern is to line their pockets, put their buddies in patronige jobs and soak the taxpayers to fund their crap, much like on the State and National levels of government. When you have a mind set that "snitches get stiches" and a genuine hostility toward law enforcement when calls are made and when the cops respond, they are greeted by a hail of gunfire in places like Stanley Holmes Village, "Back Maryland Avenue" and other desirable locals to live in, due to a trap beng set for them, is not condusive to a town to have safe streets. To me, it is trying to unscramble the egg, with years of mayors going to the slam, cope on the take and such, can you expect anything less?

So true Josh!

The majority of the PD that follow the law and try to do the right thing are overwhelmed by those on the take or are not the "first responders"; they wait and jump in when all is safe.

Maybe the feds will mount an op again soon?

Agree,,,police here are corrupt! i'd seen them cahin a 14 boy to a fence for rubbernecking a fight, but ignore blatant crime, like the corner pimp that hangs on Pacific in front of Tennesse, and the druggies that sell pills at bus stop1 i HAVE NEVER SEEN THEM PATROL OR EVEN GO INTO BAD AREA (sT jAMES) ETC, ITs indefensable,,, it seems cops are not interested in fighting real crime,,,

I am a retired police officer and i could not agree with you more. i feel sorry for all the good cops stuck in that dept. Had a little problem a few months ago with a crum putting his hands on my wife, caught him on the boardwalk and expressed my displeasure. acpd showed up, 4 smart ass punks who wouldn't make a pimple on a cop's ass. didn't want to be bothered doing anything

John,
Thanks for your service!
A neighbor's son asked me a few years ago for advice on accepting a Philly PD offer or going to ACPD. He was a college grad and just completed Atlantic County Police Training Center Alternate Route Program. He told me State Police friends advised him to go w/Philly PD. I agreed; and after he met my ex Son-In_Law in ACPD at the Irish ... in AC, he said, "thanks for the advice"
Some in ACPD forgot that; "You're supposed to uphold the law, not break or ignore it."

We went to the Battleship NJ last weekend in Camden and saw a Very Large Camden County presence all over!

The patrol cars were roaming, slowly and not sitting in same place for hours at a time. They were on the side streets in residential areas as well as the main streets.

Residents voice police brutality concerns to AC City Council

"Emotions were running high at the Atlantic City City Council meeting Wednesday night as residents called for action in addressing what they say are cases of police brutality.

Prior to the meeting a group gathered to hold a press conference in the city hall lobby.

"We're not blind to it,” said Steven Young of the National Action Network.

“Everybody knows about it, everybody sees it. Now its time to do something about it and take action."

The parents of David Castellani were also in attendance. They say since a police dog was used on their son's arrest in June, more and more people have come forward with stories of alleged police brutality.

"Its horrible for the citizens, its horrible for the tourism, it's a epidemic problem that we've seen since my sons case has come to light," said David’s father, David Castellani

Once upstairs in the City Council chambers, several residents came forward with alleged cases of police brutality. Tensions flared and one man was even briefly escorted from the room. After the testimony of residents, several council members voiced a need for answers.

"2014 wont be the same, you wont be basically in front of us screaming about brutality. Believe it or not we do understand," said Councilman Frank Gilliam.

"Its time, its time something is done so we'll respond," said Council President William Marsh.

Police Chief Ernest Jubilee was in attendance and upon the request of council, he explained the internal affairs process of reviewing complaints.

"I understand the frustration of the citizens I heard speak tonight but I can’t rush the investigation that makes for a sloppy investigation so it does take time," said Chief Jubilee.

The Chief says he does have the ability to send results from cases for further investigation and that brutality has not place in his department.

"I don't nor the police department does not tolerate police brutality so when it’s exposed, the officer is disciplined," said the Chief.

Something residents hope happens sooner rather than later.

"Hopefully take action,” said Castellani.

“Not only against the officer involved but take action to revamp the police department and to get to where they're to help the citizens, to protect and serve them not to brutalize them.""

Maybe a solution is to simply light up the city streets so that the slime have nowhere to hide, enforce the existing 9PM curfue and oh yes, instead of police, have the NJ National Guard patrol the streets. Nothing would put the fear of God in the heart of a would-be thug than his tying to facedown a guy who is packing an AK47!!!

Harry,
Good Idea! But the perps have AKs as well...

You can see the dealers hangin' on the corners in plain sight with no fear & the arrogance bec. they know there is no concern.

Be Safe there!

John, First, thanks for your service! We were in AC two weeks ago having dinner at a Pub where an obviously intoxicated On-Duty officer was slugging CC down and ranting. It made me feel very un-safe there as well as later in the city. We left and went home after dinner instead of going to a casino show.

Police to get body cameras; wonder how many will show vids of a bartender?

As Kurt wrote elsewhere "If you're not doing anything wrong, you've got nothing to worry about!"

The ACPD night shift holds meetings at the Pub!

That is a great cost-savings idea!
