They were not charged, as your headline states, "for reporting news." They were charged for trespassing and disorderly conduct.
Can one burst into the White House or any other restricted area with impunity, simply because that person is researching a news story? |

Trespassing and disorderly conduct? Sounds like the Bush and Cheney outfit. Charge them with whatever you can, but the real reason for the harassment of the Press. Freedom of the Press is a dream for the common people, not a reality for Americans or Virginians especially.

I'm sorry, but I believe dorm safety and security is paramount. These are living spaces (even the shared study halls and foyers) for the students that are resident in the building. Given the events of April 17 I believe that ANY non-resident or uninvited guest should be considered a trespasser, even the press. Had the pair of journalists had appointments it would have been a different story, but to enter a residence hall and roam around entering rooms looking for people to interview is contrary to the safety and security of the residents within the building.
