The trucker was probably driving 45mph in the passing lane, like they all do on I81 for some reason....or he was messing around with his own gun at the rest area and shot himself. A more likely scenario.

Wow, case solved. Lock the truck driver up for three crimes; 45MPH in the left lane of an Interstate Highway, stopping at a rest stop to mess around with a gun to shoot himself, and not being as intelligent as the previous poster who solved the case and did not have to leave his cri ,,ahh bed.

We all can sleep well tonight knowing detective Teller is alert and watching out for the bad truck drivers.

more to come

Wow! He was very talented or had a very long arm. Shooting himself in the right leg through the passenger door was quite a trick. His skills are wasted driving a rig.

Too many people in such a hurry-can't wait for a truck to pass someone and merge back. Sounds like the car was passing in the right lane--probably some dolt who darts in and out of traffic thinking they will "get ahead". If you think this fool will only shoot at a trucker, think again. Could have been a car with a family inside! Hope they catch this loser and reciprocate. Best wishes for a quick recovery to the trucker!

These friggin comments about trucks in the left lane are so ridiculous. You almost have to make a reservation to pass because the 4-wheelers don't know that 1-81 has a right lane. How many times have I been passed and "cut-off" by a lame-brain 4-wheeler that will pass me and then whip it right off at the exit, in such a hurry that they can't wait 2 seconds.

Now before some of you posters start getting your panties in a wad, let me state that I in no way advocate what this shooter did, but I understand his frustration. Many truck drivers, especially on 81, have become totally disrespectful of fellow motorists. They will pull out in the passing lane, on a hill, trying to pass a fellow trucker going 1 mph slower. This blocks up the left lane for miles. Many will then not pull over after passing the slower truck. It's time 18 wheelers were banned from the passing lane on 81 unless they can safely pass and get back in the right lane before being overtaken by fellow motorists. I hate to see more laws, but common courtesy seems to have disappeared.

How would you enforce this ridiculous concept of yours? The state police are already busy enough with people like the guy who shot into the semi. Who is gonna make sure they are only passing when no other motorist is behind them? Maybe you should not drive on 81. Or leave the house earlier so that you have plenty of time to get where you are going instead of racing down the highway and complaining about tractor trailer drivers. Without these guys on the road, all your precious commodities like budweiser and cigarettes would be piled up at the train stations and shipping yards. Slow down. Enjoy life. Ease up.

Let us not forget this is the state than thinks it is okay to allow concealed carry where alcohol is served. That is wrong on so many levels I don't know where to start.

Well I guess it's just time to ban em from the left lane. And no, I do not drive on 81 anymore because of the dumb arse truck drivers. Much more pleasant drive down 29 and then I40 to my cabin western North Carolina.

Oh please get a life. How about the liberals enforcing laws on lawbreakers and not on law abiding citizens. Guns are not the issue, people are the issue.

It's long past time that the more hilly stretches of 81 had a 3rd lane where the 3rd lane doesn't allow trucks. That's not uncommon elsewhere and is exactly for that kind of reason.

That said, I am rarely mad at truckers. There is the occasional moron in a truck but mostly they know how to use the roadways and are just trying to make a living. Our biggest problem is twits in passenger vehicles. To many people driving passenger cars don't understand the design logic of the limited access highway - either that or don't care. But mostly it's that they don't get it. Most real problems I encounter are from that, not from trucks.

By the comment Frank, it is you who are "liberal" in this case, apparently supporting liberal gun laws.( http://www.english-for-students.com/liver.htm... )

And what "liberals" where are enforcing what laws on law abiding citizens rather than lawbreakers by the way? That statement makes no sense whatsoever.

I am not interested, btw, in gun control laws. I'm just interested in sharing the polity with other citizens that make sense.

i totally agree. i am near north garden...8 miles from cville...and you wouldn't believe how many idiots i deal with from home to town in that 8 miles. everyone drives too fast and too angry. it is insane. very rarely is it the truckers who are the problem.
