Offender sues over McDonald's firing

“As upset as Scott is about this, he said he wouldn't wish the criminal-justice system on anyone”

In what may be a precedent-setting case for sex offenders across the state, a Level 3 sex offender living in Tewksbury is suing McDonald's and a local mother, claiming the restaurant fired him unfairly after ... via Lowell Sun

I am sorry but our first goal should be to protect our children, and if that means he needs to find a job where children do not frequent well so be it. I don't care if he wasn't working the counter, he has access to the restrooms and we have all heard the horific stories. I think we need to take any steps necessary to stop another child from becoming a victim. Look what happened in the library in New Bedford. Children's safety should come first, bottom line.

Yes. Then we need the Death Penalty for child molesters and rapists.

You got that right!! We have to be doing more than we are. If we did in the first place, maybe they wouldn't be third, fourth, fifth time offenders!

How very sarcastic. We don't want himwalking around either, Mr. Smart stuff. He can get a job working with older men. Maybe he can work for the Sewer Dept. Hey, here's an idea, why don't you give him a job.

Let's see...
This guy finds a job around teen girls who happen to be his target victim and nobody thinks this is an issue besides this mom? Are you kidding me? What is really happening here is the attempt by this snot nosed criminal defense attorney to create a new set of laws for this group. So much for our rights as citizens. They have been trying for years. Let's thank Gov. Patrick for supporting criminals over law abiding citizens. This woman should sue both the attorney and McDonalds.

Good idea. If they do change laws to make life easier for these types of dirt bag criminals, people will just take the law into their own hands and then we won't ever have to deal with them ever again. i know if anyone ever hurt my children like that, I wouldn't hesitate to kill them and never tell the authorities.
That's what I call an open & shut case. When it comes to my children, I am judge, jury, and executioner.

It wouldn't bother me in the least if we started to see a little vigilanty justice. Rapists and child molesters must be kept in cages until the end of time.

All im saying is that the sex offender registry wasnt created so John Q Citizen can call up and get someone fired because the person happens to be working at a place this person frequents. In fact, it explicitly says when you go on the website not to use the information for harrassment purposes. Which is why I think this sex offender actually has a pretty solid case for his lawsuit. Blame McDonalds for hiring this guy knowing full well he was a sex offender.

Your state reps made the rules. As much as he's a dirt bag, he did his time and obeyed the rules. He was slinging burgers in the kitchen, not putting on a Ronald Mcdonald and having kiddies sit on his lap.

I don't think he sought out a glamor job like Micky D's to be around the kids that get dropped off there for the day. More likely it was the only place that would hire him. I'm sure some of you who know where all those jobs working in the farthest recesses of a warehouse only frequented by old men are, can get him off the streets or welfare rolls by getting him an application.

Sounds like this character is going to need major protection when he arrives at the courthouse. Well, he made his bed, now he can rot in it. Suing the lady that blew the whistle on him is not going to get any public empathy. He should just move on. Any lawyer that takes on his case is also scum.

Matt seems to be about the only person who has any sense.
Where would you have this man work? He certainly doesn't work alone, I'm sure someone might notice if Mr Gagnon jumped the counter and snuck off to the restroom. Sex offenders are not supposed to work where they will be alone with children. A fast food restaurant seems like a safe bet to me.
Mrs. Quinn should stop to think that her behavior leads to consequences for many people. Did she really think she wouldn't get the witch hunt heated up?
Mr. Gagnon, I wish you success in your lawsuit. It baffles my mind that we only have a registry for sex offenders. I for one, would rather know where murderers lived - but that's just me.

Unfortunately, we're making it impossible for these people to actually make an attempt at a law abiding life. I really don't have any sympathy for these people but what happens when these people get put in a corner like this? It's likely many of these people will end up jobless, turn to addiction or whatever and be likely to re offend. The other angle to this is the guy might actually have a case. You cannot use sex offender information to harass these people. I guess we'll have to see if the court looks upon this as harassment or not. I think we're creating a whole new angle to the problem here.

This guy says he "told" people but did he actually put it on his application that he was a level 3 sex offender? I think they should pull his application. Also why is it harrassment when you discover he is working at a place that children/teenagers frequent not to mention the fact that he admitted to 20 other rapes of women and was never tried for those. Justice will prevail. One way or another.

Anyone who hurts children should rot in jail or get the death penalty. If he wants a job try the graveyard. He should never be where children go! I will never frequent that McDonalds ever!!!! How can anyone have sympathy for this type of scum? Do you think his victims can just move on, no this will stay with them always.

I don't disagree but why are we letting them out? Did he not pay his debt?

Hello even though he did 27 years after getting out and being classified. The SORB felt he is still a danger to the public and that is why he is classified as a level three most likely to re offend. what if a teenage girl (not knowing she is working with a sex offender)maybe working with him some night when he decides to rape her. Then what then should we just read the headlines and say oh we should have better laws or should we have good citizens like Andrea who took a stand and let people know he was there. How many moms do you think would have let their daughters work there after knowing that?
If he was hired knowing he was a sex offender how could he be fired knowing he was a sex offender.

I don't know why we are letting them out, it is a big mistake!! He and others like him can never repay what they did to their victims. How do you tell a victim get over it move on, you don't it is a lifetime of hell for them. The scum should have at least a lifetime of incarceration or castration at best.
