My dad and mom told me that in its day the village was the largest cinema in st louis county.
My dad used to sneak into the 270 drive in where clocktower is now. He and his friends also used to smuggle in beer as well.
Fritz used to be an A-W Root beer.
There used to be a waterslide up across from cross keys and a small water park in front of grandview?
An old quarry at the end of new halls ferry a bit north of the intersection with Douglas which was a popular swimming hole. It is reputed to be haunted with access long being difficult to impossible.
Bettendorfs was bought out by Schnucks? Where was the florissant bettendorfs?
.
The waterslide at cross keys was, aqua jet . I believe the grandview on was a wet willies

Somebody please correct me if I'm wrong. I seem to remember there being, for a very short period of time, a Chuck-A-Burger either right before or right after Tote's was in that location.

So many memories. Lived in neighborhood behind the old Bickles, Bag. Of chicken. Remember a hardware store, hairdresser and laundromat. The gas station next to it was ran by a great old guy who use to leave the lights on every tuesday so we could square dance. One of our neighbors was a caller and taught us to dance. Walked to Robinson school for summer camp. Shakeys in the 70s after band practices. Wasnt a mafia guy shot near the popes cafeteria across the street. Forgot how idyllic my life was growing up in such a great area. Loved all the post!

the only memories the kids will have to look back on these days is where they ducted bullets at or what robbery took place where. what a shame. lot of good places have come and gone along with the memories. use to be a good ans safe place to live. we could go anywhere and do anything, just had to be home before the street lights came on.

I lived in Florissant from about 1956 to late 1963 on St. Albert Ln. There were hardly any trees as it was all new then. Went to Sacred Heart for 1st and 2nd grade. We used to go to a Vess soda store there and get pink creme soda to make floats with.

Actually it is where the Colonoscopy clinic sits now.

The bank location was LINDBERGH bank until being torn down, due to structural issues in 1988.

I went to school with some kids named Behlmann that used to live on St. Catherine. Does anyone remember them and were they related to any of the Behlmanns.
Does anyone remember The Brown Horse Stables on Lindbergh behind Brinker Tractor Sales. It's where the Aldi's is now. Lendel and Margaret Brown had 3 or four kids. Peggy and Linda are the only ones I can think of right now. Linda later made a carnection with the Behlmann family.
Does anyone recall Memphis Best Bar-B-Que where Taco Bell is now on Lindbergh?
Linda Brown married Ken Behlmann. ken had a sister Patsy but i don't know where she is now. i also think the farm next to Browns was the Keeven farm

I remember JoJos, I was a hostess there 1987 - 1988. I worked with a few people from McCluer North and my parents used to come in, so that I could wait on them. Loved the round protruding windows and the strange location... : )

Anyone else remember Betty's fried chicken on Patterson and Humes? Just down from the Rexall drug store in the strip shopping center. Full service gas at Sinclair, Betty's fried chicken and Rexall. Wonder what year they closed?

Does anyone remember what store used to be on the front corner of Village Square where Sanford Brown is now? It went out of business and there was a big closing sale, but I can't remember if it was a party supply, a general store type place or what. I just have the odd memory of buying plastic cups there. Also, what else was in Old Towne Village Square besides the 88 cent store, a candy store and a Western clothing/boots store?

After growing up and living in Florissant for over thirty years I moved away because of work (around 2003). I've been away for about ten years and still come back to visit from time to time. Several family and friends still live in and around Old Town. Recently while visiting I was shocked to see just how bad the City had become. What a shame. I can remember riding bikes all over Florissant and playing baseball and soccer at all the City parks. Guess that's a thing of the past for this generation.

Does anyone remember the candy store (Meyers) at the intersection of New Florissant and St. Francis? There used to be a bank across the street. Is Henke's Bar still there? When I was younger we would sneak out of Sacred Heart and run down the street to buy Henke burgers. We'd probably end up in juvie for doing that now.
