Jennifer, it sounds like your are upset because you are you spouse is out of work due to the union greed. I have worked side by side laid off union workers for a non union employer. This employer paid them well, treated them well and kept food on their families table. They promised to not cause trouble when hired, and the employer promised not to report them to the hall. Everyone knew that when they got called back to work that they would leave. If they stayed they would have been better off. This job is recession proof. We make good wages. When they get laid off again there may not be an opening for them. How long will it be till they get called back. Why do the unions believe it is acceptable to charge so much that they lose jobs and cannot keep the men and women they hire working.
The unions don't care about you all they want is a piece of your pie.
I do agree that alot unions are greedy. The reason I am pro-union is because I feel they do do alot to help their members. I also think that a person leaving a good job to go back to a union job that lays them off over and over is the right thing to do. Non-union jobs fire people at will, or when a friend of theirs needs a job. At least when you are union you have someone to defend you when you are wronged by the company.

You know what makes me LMAO. I know several union workers; painters, plumbers, carpentars, electricians, drywaller; just to name a few. Each one will tell you how they have walked off a job because someone non-union was there to do work. But I also know each one has done jobs on the side for CASH. Now explain to me how a PRO-Union person can honestly be pro-union and do this?

I understand what you are saying, but here's my point of view. There are more and more instances of people being ripped-off by contractors. Yes, I realize this can happen with any business, but Unions stand behind the work. Their workers are held to a higher standard because they will be kicked out of the union if they don't do right. Yes, I agree that unions can be pushy, but it's because they want to the best for their members. I wish I could buy from all union companies. Maybe then people wouldn't get bad gas all the time, raw food from restaurants, and be treated like garbage by servers.
Union may have standards but there are non-union companies out there that have just as good standards maybe even higher. They are known as reputable companies. If employees do not do the job correctly these companies back the work. The employee continues to make mistakes on the job the company will get rid of them. You take the low ball bid from some small unknown unreliable company you may get stung. That is why you should always check out who you are dealing with.

Unions were a great idea, 75 years ago. Now all they are good for is driving up prices, bullying businesses into paying higher prices for semi-skilled labor, and whining at intersections when businesses choose cheaper labor options. $50 an hour for putting knobs on radios at GM, gee wonder why they went bankrupt. My last GM vehicle is a testament to american union labor, a cheaply make $30,000 piece of crap. $80 an hour for an electrician, outrageous show up fees for a plumber..yeah, unions are really looking out for the common man...go get a job. A real on where you have to work, take out your own trash, and you don't get a break every hour. I'm a veteran, an american, and 90% of you union folks can kiss it.

i was at the meeting and half of the city council was bought and paid for by crown! the MAYOR included! i hope the mayors friendship with the owner of CROWN ELECTRIC was worth selling out his residents!! good luck in your "re-election" bid!
If you'll check out each Bridgeton council member's campaign contribution reports, as well as that of the mayors, you'll quickly find that the four councilpersons who voted for Crown did not have any contributions from any organized labor group. Two of the four who voted in favor of Bell has taken significant contributions from labor unions including the IBEW. A third member who favored the Bell contract is married to a fire chief who's district was called to the carpet by the Post Dispatch for ethical violations related to the firefighters union and the local board for the district.

Bridgeton residents wake up! Follow the money trail. It comes into the councilpersons pockets from the union and out the back door of city hall.
