I think it is wonderful the award that you gave to Hazelwood School District. I am an African-American teacher in the Hazelwood school district. One of the chief most injustices is that Hazelwood has so few African-American teachers and so large a number of African-American students.
In many cases they have treated me with disdain. I think it was because of my race. Students are not passing state assessments. Have you bothered to ask why? I wonder what God would say if he knew what has happened here. Perhaps you need to look deeper. Maybe you should talk to African-American teachers and students about their experiences before giving out awards. This award may do more harm than good. Your ignoring Silent Racism. Read the book with that title. Maybe you could actually go into the schools and help to insure that racism does not occur in such a way that it harms students and teachers. Churches played a vital role in the civil rights movement not a handing out of awards role.
