Hey Recknecks. WAKE UP. You guys AND black guys are BOTH oppressed. Stop hating them and start bringing them INTO OUR TEAM so we can take down and rebuild our government. If I wanted to raise and Army to defend our state (which is what I'm doing), THE FIRST PLACE I'D RECRUIT IS MONTICELLO AVENUE.

Sorry it took me a second to figure out what you meant.

What I'd LIKE to do is get 1000 guys together at the VA park and march to the Courthouse carrying Rebel Flags and smoking weed. But. No one seems interested. This state is odd. So much passion but so little use of it.

You think it is odd you can't find people to do that?

How progressive of you to start a conversation about racism and then want to march under the rebel flag. Are you a drug user Alex? I don't think your recruits from Monticello are going to be too excited about that since it is the symbol of thier oppression.

The Rebel flag is the flag of Rebels. There's only one. And I feel that in order to heal our racial divide around here once and for all, we need to march under its banner SO THAT we can get all the black guys out of jail (who're there for drugs). I KNOW that none of the guys I know who have a Rebel flag are racists. They have it because its simply a symbol of independent spirit. Most people don't know the history of the Civil War anyway.

The Rebel flag as you refer to the flag of the Confederate States of America is indeed a sign of racism. Since the primary issue of the reason for its creation was slavery. The second thing it symbolizes is the uprising of southern sovereignty and a hate of the American government.

I know some who fly this flag claim not to be racist, but that is bullshit as far as I am concerned. They are just not openly racist.

Those that claim it is about heritage should take note of all the blacks from the south...funny none of them are flying it.

There was slavery under the American Flag. And there's certainly been plenty of racism under the American flag.

I have many friends who have a Rebel flag (not to mention myself), and I'm not a racist. They're not racists. Say all you want. That's the truth.

And it's not about heritage, much either, especially here in West Virginia, since we obviously were more Union than Confederate anyway. In fact I used to get annoyed when I'd see Rebel flags flying around here because it told me the person flying it had no idea we seceded from the Confederacy in 1863.

No. The Rebel flag, today, is simply about. Being a Rebel. That's all. That's the only reason why certain kinds of people - people who don't like being told what to do - fly it. That's why I love it.

Not to mention. You simply have to respect the average Southern soldier's passion and courage. They were incredible, if you know the history. Most of them weren't slave owners. They were merely fighting for their homes. That's all.

Abraham Lincoln himself very nearly made slavery a permanent addition to our country in order to prevent the War. Did you know that?

When you get past the political correctness (which is exactly why I'll have my Rebel belt buckle FOREVER), and learn about the war in detail (I'd recommend Shelby Foote), you'll get the whole, wonderfully rich history that is so American. I wish more people found it as fascinating as I do.

No that doesn't make you a racist, plus millions of Black American soldiers identify with that flag just like you do. Especially in the US Navy. This flag is really a symbol of patriotism. It has also been used lately as a symbol for NIKE. It has even appeared in Disney Movies! I also see it very differently because it is part of the history of the United States Of America, not like the Confederate flag with represents the South succeeding AGAINST the United States. The civil war had many issues but slavery was the MAIN issue.

The very fact that so many politically correct people insist on giving people $hit for having a Rebel flag is exactly the reason so many people, including myself, have one.

The Civil War was NOT about slavery. It was about a State's Right to Secede from the Union. As you'll read in that Wikipedia article, Mr. Lincoln was willing to PRESERVE SLAVERY FOREVER in order to preserve the Union.

If the South had anywhere near the man-power, resources and money of the North? Wow. It wouldn't have even been close. Because man to man, Southern soldiers were better. BECAUSE THEY CARED MORE.

There was the Rebel Yell.

That article mentions Representative Corwin (whom it was named after) and Senator Seward who made a similar proposition prior to Rep. Corwin, there is no mention of President Lincoln.

Also, if you like being a "rebel" then you should try Anarchy. It's pretty much the same thing with no racism.
