I had an uncle who passed away that used to work there. My mother has some hand painted plates that he did while he was there - very usual. If you let me know what information you need - I might be able to find out something for you.

One thing I was trying to find out is what the codes on the backstamp stood for. I talked to another former employee that said the letters are for the pattern and the numbers are a date code. Any old catalogs or brochures would be helpful also if anyone has them. I know a few folks that would be interested in purchasing them.

An oval white casserole dish, coverless, no year stamped. It says McNicol China Clarksburg,W VA. underneath. Anyone have an idea how much it might be worth? Been in the family since 1960 and came from someone's grandmother. Thanks for any help!

I've recently rediscovered a bowl that belonged to my great grandparents (or older) that was made by McNichol. The stamp on the bottom is "D.E. McNichol" over "Clarksburg, W.Va". Also on the back, you can see the three points where bowl was held off the kiln floor while firing. The pattern is two large orange poppies in the center, with leaves, buds, and two or three smaller blooms surrounding. The bowl is edged in a near-solid light green, then gold line, then XXXX <+> with three teardrops underneath.

Any ideas on the age, pattern, or probable value? Many thanks in advance.

It is very seldom my maiden name, McNicol, is spelled correctly. I spent some time in Scotland looking up graves of my ancstors. I love the plain "hotel" style of the McNicol China I find in flea markets, etc here in Mo. I, too , collect the West Virginia marked ones.
I have 6 mugs and a small platter with the WVa mark if you are interested.

My grandmother worked at the McNicol "Pottery" in Clarksbug during WW II while my grandfather was with Patton in Europe. Grandma had a set of the Rose pattern dishes. They were seconds that were given to the employees at that time. About 30 years ago she had them piled up in her garage and she said that they were headed for flea market. Lucky I was there...I eat off of those dises every day. Have 8 dinner plates, smaller plates, gravy boat, sugar bowl, and large meat platter.

I grew up in Bridgeport until I was 11 years old but have lived in NC for 47 years.

That is wonderful that you rescued those dishes! Are they the heavy restaurant ware dishes? Have you been able to find other pieces to go with your set? I'm using their green stripe pattern dishes and just love them.
