Joe was my tap teacher. We only had about 10 classes together in total, and it was any monday i could make it at 5 30 or 6 o clock. He was so passionate about dance and i always thouroughly enjoyed his reaction once i had finished my routine. On the day before the recital in June, I told him that i would come in and perform for his students, because I wouldn't be able to attend the recital. He had me do my routine 4 times! I enjoyed and I will truly miss him as a teacher.

Even though it has been, almost, 1 1/2 year's since, Joe, died. These day's, I once in a while,
think about Joe, in my thought's, because, I took,
Jazz, Ballet,+ Tap with him for, 10 year's. I now, have since, joined a new dance school, and, yes, Even though I am 30 1/2 year's old, I still, perform, in recital's, with, this new, school.
When the weather turn's warmer, I will go visit,
Joe's grave in, Bridgeport, CT. I hope some of his
past student's, will, to. "Rest In Peace, Joe".

I had Joe Vilane for 1 year for tap dancing, back in, oh, 1990. Even though I was 30 years old, and had never danced before, he taught me alot and treated me with kindness and respect.

Was sad to hear that Joe passed away, I studied with him for 10 years (when I was a teenager). Was able to turn professional when I was 18. And had a great run as a pro. And I thank him for his kindness!

Now as far as his boyfriend, Robert goes, that's another story.

What was wrong with Bob? I loved Bob; all of the students in my classes loved Bob.

Joe Vilane has been on mind so I goggled him only to read the sad news that he died 3 years ago. I studied ballet, tap, jazz with him for over 14 years - from 3 years old until 17 when I went to Yale. Joe was very proud that I pursued the arts - modeling, theatre, dance in high school and college. He influenced me to get into the entertainment business (albeit the business side). I will never forget how my Croatian mother was shocked when she first met Joe in his skin-color leotard nor the endless rehearsals for recitals in his studio and the humorous tiffs he had with his boyfriend, Robert. I think about my time at Joe's studio and on occasion even have dreams about it - I guess because it was such a big part of my childhood and adolescence. Please email me at [email protected] re: Joe's passing/later years, where is Robert?, who is managing the Joe Vilane Dance Studio?

It was in the mid 1970's when I first started tap dancing classes with Joe Vilane. He was a terrific kind and so patient. Then, when I had the opportunity to watch him dance, I was dazzled. I couldn't believe I was lucky enough to be one of his students.

I took tap classes from Joe for several years. At one point, Joe taught tap to my 6 year old neice and to me. We had so much fun!

At the end of every year, Joe would mail Joe Vilane Dance School calendars. I saved them all, and just found them in the back of my closet.

I still think of Joe often. He never seemed to age. Now, it is hard to believe that he passed away. I can still hear those feet tapping. What a terrific man.
