BRIDGEPORT -- Christina Ayala had to persuade the state House speaker she lives in her district and reschedule a court appearance on a domestic violence arrest, but she will report for duty in Hartford as a new legislator Wednesday.
"Yes, I will be attending opening day in Hartford," Ayala, D-128, wrote Tuesday in a text message when asked if she will be present for swearing-in ceremonies marking the start of the 2013 legislative session.
A shoo-in for the House seat vacated by her cousin, state Sen.-elect Andres Ayala, D-23, Christina Ayala's entry into Bridgeport politics has been controversial before she's even stepped foot into the Capitol building.
Twenty-four hours after winning her August primary, Ayala was arrested in a hit-and-run accident in Bridgeport. Then, in December, Ayala and her boyfriend were arrested after a domestic squabble.
That second incident raised questions about whether Ayala lived in the 128th House District or the 129th District. Election documents and the city registrar's office, run by her mother, Santa "Sandi" Ayala, listed Christina Ayala's address as 604 Noble Ave. But the two arrest reports and her request for a restraining order stated she lived at 49 Hillside Ave. in the 129th District.
The Ayala family, including her father, Tito Ayala, an influential Democrat in Bridgeport, would not or could not detail where Christina Ayala lived when contacted on numerous occasions by Hearst Newspapers.

The Ayala family are a bunch of crooks who should be in jail, not holding public offices. Shame on them.

No hope for Bridgeport anytime soon- there is no public outcry about Ayala and Newton. This really is a microcosm of America. Informed people are now outvoted. Sorry for being depressingly right.

Well, let's see......first there was Newton, now Ayala. Man! They can really pick 'em can't they? What are we teaching our children, that it's OK to be corrupt or a hot-head and not take responsibility when you hit someone with your car? Yeah, great world we live in. And you wonder why nobody trusts politicians.

We're also teaching them, by way of DeStefano in New Haven, that if you come here illegally, all will be well and you can even get a driver's license! How wonderful! NOT. The next generation is going to be nothing but thieves with over-inflated senses of entitlement.

We aren't teaching our children anything about those two, they don't know about that. The only thing the average connecticut lib idiot hears is a radio interview of Jim Himes, spewing Obama's vomit for a second time.
