Taxpayers spent $1.4 billion dollars on everything from staffing, housing, flying and entertaining President Obama and his family last year, according to the author of a new book on taxpayer-funded presidential perks.

In comparison, British taxpayers spent just $57.8 million on the royal family.

The president’s dog gets its own high-paid staffer:“Bo made the news when he and his handler were flown to join the president on vacation in Maine,” Gray wrote about the Obama family dog.“It has been reported that the first family’s dog handler was paid $102,000, last year.”

The president can appoint high-paid staffers without Senate confirmation: Obama has 469 senior staffers and 226 are paid more than $100,000 a year, according to the book. Seventy-seven are paid as much as $172,000 per year. He also has appointed 43 “czars.”

Are there still starving Americans out there ???

It's Bush's fault!

Actually though, this Obama makes my skin crawl. I'm not sure america is ever going to wake up from this. People no longer consume news- they consume entertainment.

I should train George to sneak in and have his way with Obama's dog.

Why does everyone persist in saying she's ugly? WTF? That seems pretty racist to me, since she's not ugly. I think she's very pretty, although I loathe her. She's spent 4 years vacationing while the country rots- how about that for a criticism?

Chill out, it was just a joke. There was no racist intent at all.

Ok, I can appreciate that, thanks. A lot of people do make fun of her looks though, and I think it reflects badly on my side of the political spectrum. And we need all the help we can get at the moment.
