3MONTHS...I SAID 3 MONTHS!!! Why is it that the US government can deploy thousands a US forces, house, feed, train, basically create cities half way across the world to fight a war, but can't put roofs over 3000+ US home owners heads. Dont get me wrong, I am all for doing away with terrorist, but that war ended years ago as far as I am concerned. It is now and has been a war for oil. I applied and was accepted to receive housing assistance through FEMA. After approx 1 month of waiting they said they took me of the accepted list due to the fact I Purchased a travel trailer to put a roof over my families head. Keep in mind this is after The Pres. of the United States declared BC a national disaster area. I know several people who could have done the same thing I did, but had a better alternitive to stay at a relatives home. My entire family suffered the same disaster I did so I had no choice but to go in debt with a trailer and be on my property to try and secure it from looters and be there during build back. Why am I being punished for doing what I had to do to provide for my family. I had to get in contact with Congressman Brady's office to just get back on the list. At this time, 3 months since the storm I have FEMA telling me that a work order has been posted and my property has been marked but nothing else in weeks. I have been told by gov. employees that after my yard is marked that FEMA is supposed to have a trailer on it in 7 days. It has been 28 days and now some contacts in Austin and gov. employees are saying they dont see a work order in their system for me. I feel like FEMA is giving me the complete run a round, hoping I get my house back in order before They have to do anything. This administration is a joke!!! They are more interested in trying to get third world countries to be democrocies than taking care of law abiding tax payers/voters here in the good ole US of A. There is know doubt our for fathers rolling in their graves about now.

That sucks! Almost all of my surrounding neighbors had travel trailers and received FEMA trailers without a problem. It does sound like you are getting the runaround from them. It took us 2 months to finally get ours and only 4 days after the property was inspected and flags put down. I wish you luck.

That is great news. I am just trying to get a contractor to call me back so we can start repairs on the house, guess they are all pretty booked. Also, I will only use one that advertises no money until job complete. Nobody is taking advantage of me.

I know where your coming from. Most insurances are paying by 1/3rds of completion. As your contractor completes some portions he gets paid. Some of these jobs are taking 3-6 months. You cant expect them to not get paid for that long. They have to eat too. You might want to take this advice. If they finish the drywall work, pay them. When they finish the cabinets and trim, pay them. When they finis the paint and floors, pay them. etc...

These guys are contractors not banks! They dont want to put out a small fortune in materials, payroll, insurance, fuel, and then have to chase homeowners around to get paid! ask for refs or proof of ins. Anyone that does float all payments till the end will either lien the hell out of your house or is a total fly by night butcher with no ins.!

Actually after speaking with friends/family that are having work done I have found lots of contractors that do not require payment upfront, some will wait to be paid until the job is done and some will ask for 1/2 the money when the job is halfway done...and yes they are licensed and bonded. Also there is no lien on my home, lol. Things are finally coming along pretty good around here.

I know how you feel, but you can not lay all the blame on FEMA for their response time to your disaster. Your local government{ city, County, your Council of Government, and State} play a bigger role in who gets what than they will admit. It's been two years since Ike hit and the money allocated for the recovery is still in the hands of our local COG. These agencies hope that by the time they get around to you that you will have done something to prevent them from distibuting the money to you, or so it seems. These monies come in the form of Grants that do not have to be paid back. And since there is no one trying to recover these monies or make adjustments of these allocations. Usually the money is free for local government to use on needed projects. You did the right thing by filing a complaint with your Congressman. Once the federal government releases money to someone. They sometimes do not have any way of knowing where the money went and generally rely on the local governments to tell them.
