Am I missing something or does the word leave not have the same meaning to all people? when they tell you leave, just leave. I don't want to hear how they didn't have a way out. if they were giving away cheese they would figure a to get it. Now the goverment, which is us, has to pay to have people go get these fools. let them sit on their roofs until the water goes down, next time they will LEAVE>>>

I don't disagree with you about if you are told to leave, do so or suffer the consequences. I am from Bridge City and evacuated, but remember that we had a mandatory evacuation not even 2 weeks prior for a storm that was said to be pretty bad and everyone left (as they should have), but turned out to be nothing for our area. I suspect people were tired and broke and never thought this could actually happen since it's never happened before. Foolish, I know, but you having no tact at the moment when my entire town is essentially gone (and other parts affected) doesn't help. So, don't worry, we aren't getting near the attention and assistance as the Katrina victims...I wonder why. Yours, mine and everyone else's \tax dollars paid for YEARS of assistance to an already corrupt city that refused to repair their levee system and infrastructure with all the money they get from tourism every year, then had the audacity to blame the government for their apparent lack of judgment. At least we aren't raping women, shooting at rescuers, looting, and killing other people.

We are all in shock and in my town, most everyone lost everything they had. They don't need for you or anyone else to tell them how stupid they are. I think they now know.

My sister lives in Cypress and I can not reach her by home phone or cell. How bad is Cypress and do I have cause to be concerned. I'm outside of Atlanta and feel very helpless not knowing.
Thanks!

I live in Tomball. We faired pretty well. We have no power and lots of downed trees. We also have high water in some areas. My family came to visit family in Austin until the power comes back on. I haven't heard of anyone not surviving the storm. Where in Tomball does your sister live and what is her name?

I am appalled at the hateful comments made about the people who did not leave. Just the week before this we had mandatory evacuation for Hurricane Gustav - many people spent money they did not have to evacuate for this storm. Then the very next week - BEFORE their next payday they have a mandatory evacuation again - and no money to leave. The buses and other means for people to evacuate were not available to this area - they had all been sent to South Texas to evacuate people around the Corpus Christi area - we were told by the local authorities that we had to figure out how to get out on our own. We left because we had the financial means and transportation to do so, but many did not have this luxury. Please do not be quick to judge this area or even begin to compare it to New Orleans - this area is nothing like that - this is an industrial area with hard working people living here. This is my home and I am just heart broken.

Molly, I've been on these blogs for several days searching for my daughter in Bridge City. For the most part people have been overwhelmingly kind, helpful, thoughtful and caring. A blogger, Stephen, on another site actually asked his parents who are in Bridge City to go to the address where we feared our daughter was trapped and possibly dead. They went there and found it empty and said it didn't look like there would have been enough water in it for anyone not to survive. We are still looking and I have renewed hope. Don't take these few losers to heart. I think they must be very ignorant. Good luck to you and be safe. God Bless.

Wow most of the people affected are white. You don't see any RAPING LOOTING OR KILLING. No BUCKS OR SHEBOONS = Good will and helping out your fellow man.

I do not think that race is an important issue. Yes in Katrina that was what you saw on TV and living in New Orleans it made me sick. But I do believe there are bad apples in every community. The black people in orange that I grew up knowing as s child would have been just as appalled by the aftermath of Katrina as I was. I promise you the black people in orange if they stayed behind are there helping their neighbors just as the whites are. I believe it is how you are raised and what type of parents you have at to weather you are a hood or a regular citizen.

I have been lurking on topix for news regarding my mom's house in Bridge City and really felt the need to say that skin color of one's skin is not an indication of character.

Some people good, some are bad, and some in certain situations are desperate and do desperate things.

Williard, you should be ashamed. If you are not, I am for you.

Very happy to report to all of you who helped us and shared this terrible time that our daughter, Camilla Fitzgerald, called home on a borrowed phone tonight and she is alive and well. I pray that all of you will have bright spots like this in the days ahead. God Bless and Thank You!

I am appalled at the comments posted by 'Willard". Do you honestly think in your obviously unintelligent redneck mind that "White People" don't loot, rape, and murder???? My heart breaks for all the people, of all races, living in Texas and other States affected by this devastating hurricane. Just as it did for all the people, of all races, whos lives ended or were destroyed by Hurricane Katrina.

I do not even know what to say to a racist like Willard. I find it amusing that you would spend your time on this site stating such disgusting things. The people of Southeast Texas are hurting and all you can talk about is race. You obviously have issues that I do not understand, but I am amazed that for a group you hate you dedicate so much time to. May your life be blessed with understanding and peace.
