I want a legislator who stands up for what he believes in, is accountable to the voters, and isn't afraid to say who he is and what he believes in. Dennis Powers has a real plan for the 36th district. I am sick of Keith's campaign calling me and spreading lies about Dennis and trying to scare voters, it's really shameful.

All that the Clotfelter campaign means when they call Dennis Powers "extreme" is that he is a solid Republican. Clotfelter has sent out mailers with wild accusations about Powers wanting to "end Social Security," and pointing to an old article Powers wrote. If you actually read the article, Powers simply feels that it's unfair that people pay into a system their whole lives and then only see a small fraction of their money come back to them. He also talks about how outrageous it is that the government can claim that the money people pay into Social Security doesn't actually go into any fund, rather the government can spend it any way it chooses. He does not want to abolish Social Security, but he believes it needs to be reformed so that people get back more of what they put in their entire lives. The tone of the article is neither extreme nor unreasonable, but when you're dealing with a candidate such as Clotfelter who is afraid to even admit he's a Democrat, he is obviously going to paint Republican Powers as "extreme" as he possibly can.

We need a rep that stands for the district, not one that is riding the wave of hysteria.

I would like to say that I am a conservative republican and have only voted for one democrat in a race of this stature in my lifetime.(Jake Butcher)I have nothing against Dennis Powers but do know Keith Clotfelter personally.I know that Keith is the right man for the job.He is for the outdoor sportsman as well as trying to insure that Social Security will not be tampered with.He has promised to help Union County(and I believe him)with issues that affect the everyday lives of our county. When we send him to Nashville I know that he will remember and work for all the people of Union and Campbell counties. Please join my support to send the right candidate to Nashville!Elect conservative democrat Keith Clotfelter to join Bill Haslam in the state capitol!

I think Dennis will do a better job, Clotfellter is a ass kisser, and a slum lord, recently cleaned up the trailer park he owned or ran whatever, never did anything for the people there just took their welfare money.

I don't understand all these bizarre claims about Dennis Powers being "for the rich" or wanting to "end Social Security." It doesn't make sense. He's never said anything like that. Clotfelter's main picture on his Facebook Fan Page is of him in a "suit and tie," so... doesn't that imply he's for the rich, too, if wearing a suit and tie is all it takes to be for the rich? Oh, well. If we see Clotfelter and his campaign lying now, I'm sure that's all we can expect if he heaven forbid gets to Nashville. I'm sure Keith's a nice man, but he's running a campaign that appears dishonest, and it's very disappointing to see. Plus, Powers has been publicly endorsed by Bill Haslam, so obviously Haslam thinks Dennis is going to work really hard with him in the legislature or he wouldn't have done so.

here's how it is: democrat lincoln davis is supporting democrat clotfelter. both claim to be "independent conservatives."

http://www.conservative.org/ratings/ratingsar...

check that, lincoln davis was rating BY HIS OWN VOTES with a score of only 29 for how conservative he is. so much for a "independent conservative," clotfelter will be the same way.

Amen to that buddy. We don't need a do-nothing term like what union county had under william baird. what in the hell did he ever do for union county -- nothing!!!!

i say we vote for keith. he is a common guy that can keep the county moving like it is now!! powers will get absorbed by nashville. i don't care if he is a democrat, he's more of a person like we are -- not some suit....
